Job Description

Overview of the Role

The Water Treatment Instrumentation Engineer (Senior Level) is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing the design, installation, maintenance, and optimization of instrumentation and control systems in water treatment facilities. This position demands advanced technical expertise, strong problem-solving capabilities, and proven leadership in managing both people and processes. The engineer will ensure reliable system performance, compliance with international standards, and the continuous improvement of water treatment operations.


Key Responsibilities

Instrumentation Design & Implementation

  • Lead the engineering, specification, and installation of field instrumentation systems (e.g., MOVs, PTs, FTs, ATs, TTs, LT enclosures, analyzers).

  • Prepare and review technical documentation including datasheets, drawings, and control philosophies.

  • Ensure designs comply with international codes, standards, and client specifications.

Operations & Maintenance Oversight

  • Supervise preventive and corrective maintenance programs for all instrumentation systems.

  • Oversee calibration, loop checking, and troubleshooting using advanced tools and techniques.

  • Manage and direct technicians and contractors to maintain operational reliability and system efficiency.

  • Support process optimization by improving control strategies and minimizing downtime.

Team Leadership & Support

  • Mentor and develop junior engineers and technicians, providing technical training and guidance.

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for resolving site-level technical challenges.

  • Coordinate with process, mechanical, and electrical teams to deliver integrated project outcomes.

Safety, Quality & Compliance

  • Enforce compliance with HSE policies, safe work practices, and permit-to-work systems.

  • Conduct risk assessments, hazard analyses, and toolbox talks to promote a strong safety culture.

  • Ensure all instrumentation activities adhere to client standards and international safety regulations.

Project & Documentation Management

  • Prepare and maintain project deliverables including ITPs, FAT/SAT reports, calibration certificates, and as-built drawings.

  • Provide cost estimates, project schedules, and progress reports for instrumentation activities.

  • Implement reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) and continuous improvement strategies.


Skills & Competencies

  • In-depth knowledge of instrumentation, automation, and control systems in water treatment operations.

  • Strong expertise in PLC, SCADA, and DCS-based systems for process monitoring and control.

  • Proficiency in using calibration and diagnostic tools such as HART communicators, Fluke/Druck calibrators, and loop testers.

  • Leadership, team management, and stakeholder coordination skills.

  • Analytical mindset with a focus on problem-solving and process optimization.

  • Thorough knowledge of standards such as ISA, IEC, and ISO, plus local regulatory requirements.


Qualification & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Instrumentation & Control / Electrical / Electronics Engineering.

  • 8–12 years of progressive experience in instrumentation and control, including at least 5 years in a senior or supervisory role within water treatment or process industries.

  • Proven experience in managing large-scale instrumentation systems, preventive maintenance programs, and project execution.

  • Strong background in system troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and corrective action planning.
