Telecommunications Specialist

Job Summary:

The Telecommunications Specialist is responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance, and support of an organization’s voice and data communication systems. This includes managing VoIP systems, unified communications platforms, telephony infrastructure, video conferencing tools, and WAN/LAN connectivity to ensure reliable and secure communication across all sites. The ideal candidate has strong technical troubleshooting skills and experience with both traditional and modern telecommunications technologies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Install, configure, and maintain voice and data communication systems including VoIP, PBX, SIP trunks, and mobile integrations.

  • Monitor network and telecommunication systems for uptime, performance, and security.

  • Manage telecommunications hardware such as routers, switches, gateways, and IP phones.

  • Support unified communication tools (e.g., Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Cisco Webex).

  • Liaise with service providers for leased lines, SIP trunks, MPLS, or SD-WAN services.

  • Ensure system security through proper configuration and patch management.

  • Maintain up-to-date documentation of telecom configurations, diagrams, and inventory.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve telecom-related incidents and service requests in a timely manner.

  • Assist in planning and implementing telecom upgrades or migrations.

  • Monitor usage and optimize telecom cost management.

Required Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong understanding of VoIP technologies (e.g., SIP, RTP, QoS, codecs).

  • Familiarity with PBX systems (Avaya, Cisco, Asterisk, etc.).

  • Knowledge of WAN/LAN concepts and networking equipment (Cisco, Fortinet, Juniper).

  • Experience with IP telephony, unified communications, and collaboration platforms.

  • Proficient in configuring switches, routers, firewalls, and network monitoring tools.

  • Good analytical and troubleshooting skills in telecom/network environments.

  • Strong documentation and reporting capabilities.

  • Ability to work independently and communicate effectively with technical and non-technical users.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Telecommunications, or related field.

  • 1–5 years of hands-on experience in telecom support, network infrastructure, or unified communications.

  • Certifications such as Cisco CCNA Collaboration, Avaya Certified, or CompTIA Network+ are a plus.

  • Familiarity with telecom regulatory compliance in the UAE is a bonus but not required.

  • Experience supporting hybrid working environments (remote/onsite communication tools).

  • Exposure to enterprise-grade telecom and collaboration environments.
