The Welding Supervisor leads day-to-day welding operations for the fabrication of mechanical systems such as pressure vessels, structural frames, skids, and piping used in water and wastewater treatment plants. This mid-level role requires strong technical expertise in welding processes, code compliance, team coordination, and fabrication workflow management to ensure quality and schedule adherence.
Supervise welders and fitters during fabrication and assembly of code-compliant components.
Allocate job tasks and monitor productivity, quality, and material usage.
Interpret fabrication drawings, weld symbols, and WPS documentation for shop floor execution.
Oversee welding of carbon steel, stainless steel, and duplex materials using TIG, MIG, FCAW, and SMAW processes.
Enforce adherence to ASME Section IX, AWS D1.1, and internal fabrication standards.
Conduct in-process and final weld inspections; support NDT coordination and QA walkdowns.
Maintain and verify welder qualification records, WPS usage, and welding logs.
Enforce safe work practices including fume control, hot work permitting, and confined space protocols.
Conduct safety briefings, incident reviews, and toolbox talks.
Ensure that welding tools, gas systems, and PPE are maintained and used properly.
Provide technical guidance and on-the-job training to junior welders and apprentices.
Mentor employees on weld quality, code compliance, and efficiency improvements.
Participate in hiring and performance reviews for welding personnel.
Collaborate with engineering and planning teams to align welding schedules with project milestones.
Resolve technical and fabrication issues quickly to reduce delays.
Support shop capacity planning, equipment readiness, and resource allocation.
Supervision of welding across complex fabricated systems
ASME/AWS welding code compliance and QA oversight
Safety, productivity, and team leadership in a fabrication shop
Continuous improvement in welding quality and efficiency
Education:
Technical diploma or associate degree in welding, fabrication, or mechanical technology preferred
High school diploma with equivalent experience accepted
Certifications:
AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) or equivalent highly preferred
OSHA 30 and familiarity with confined space and LOTO protocols
Familiarity with ASME Section IX, Section VIII, and AWS standards
Experience:
5–8 years of welding and fabrication experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or lead role
Experience with water treatment system fabrication or industrial equipment manufacturing
Skills:
Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, weld maps, and WPS documentation
Strong understanding of welding metallurgy, joint design, and distortion control
Leadership, planning, and strong problem-solving skills
Ability to work under pressure and maintain focus on quality and safety
