The Junior Welding Supervisor supports the day-to-day coordination of welding activities involved in the fabrication of mechanical systems used in water and wastewater treatment facilities. This entry-level supervisory role is designed for individuals with a strong welding background who are transitioning into leadership, quality oversight, and workflow coordination.
Assist in supervising welders and fitters working on pressure vessels, piping, frames, and skid-mounted systems.
Monitor adherence to welding procedures (WPS), joint prep standards, and material specifications.
Help coordinate daily job assignments, material availability, and welding equipment readiness.
Observe welding activities to ensure conformance with ASME Section IX, AWS D1.1, and internal standards.
Work with QA/QC to perform visual weld inspections and prepare joints for NDT.
Assist with maintaining welder qualification records and welding logs.
Reinforce safety protocols such as PPE use, hot work permits, fume extraction, and confined space entry.
Report safety observations and help implement corrective actions.
Encourage proper handling and storage of welding consumables and gas cylinders.
Support senior supervisors in mentoring junior welders and helpers.
Help identify skill gaps and coordinate cross-training or improvement efforts.
Attend toolbox talks, daily planning meetings, and fabrication briefings.
Supervision of welding activities for water treatment system fabrication
Support for code-compliant weld quality and documentation
Reinforcing safety practices in welding environments
Learning fabrication management and leadership skills
Education:
High school diploma or GED required
Technical certification in welding or fabrication preferred
Certifications (Preferred):
AWS Certified Welder (or equivalent process certifications)
OSHA 10 or 30-hour safety card
Familiarity with ASME Section IX and AWS D1.1
Experience:
3–5 years of hands-on welding experience in fabrication or plant environments
Some exposure to supervising teams, mentoring, or leading small work crews is a plus
Skills:
Good understanding of welding techniques (SMAW, TIG, MIG) and processes
Ability to read welding symbols, shop drawings, and basic blueprints
Strong communication, organization, and teamwork mindset
Willingness to grow into a full supervisory role with training
