The Junior Welder performs welding operations on components and assemblies used in water and wastewater treatment plants. This entry-level role supports fabrication and repair work using TIG, MIG, and Stick welding processes under the guidance of senior welders and supervisors. AWS certification and willingness to develop welding skills in a water treatment context are essential.
Perform TIG, MIG, and Stick welding on stainless steel, carbon steel, and other materials according to welding procedures.
Weld piping, tanks, skids, and structural components used in water treatment systems.
Assist in fitting and preparation of parts prior to welding.
Follow welding procedures, blueprints, and weld maps to ensure weld integrity and appearance.
Participate in visual inspection of welds and assist with NDT testing preparation.
Maintain welding records and report defects or rework needs to supervisors.
Adhere to all safety protocols including PPE use, ventilation, and confined space rules.
Participate in safety meetings and hazard assessments.
Ensure compliance with AWS, ASME, and plant safety standards.
Work under the direction of senior welders to improve welding technique and knowledge of water treatment equipment.
Attend training sessions on welding processes, equipment use, and safety practices.

Education:
High school diploma or GED required
Completion of welding training or apprenticeship program preferred
Certifications:
AWS Certified Welder (TIG, MIG, and/or SMAW) required or in progress
Basic safety training preferred (OSHA 10, confined space, etc.)
Experience:
0–2 years of welding experience in a fabrication, maintenance, or industrial environment preferred
Skills:
Basic proficiency in TIG, MIG, and Stick welding techniques
Ability to read simple welding symbols and blueprints
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
Good communication and willingness to learn
