The Senior Welding Inspector plays a lead role in ensuring the quality and compliance of welded systems and components fabricated for water and wastewater treatment infrastructure. This position is responsible for overseeing complex inspections, interpreting codes, mentoring QA staff, and enforcing high standards in shop and field environments. The role requires extensive experience with ASME, AWS, AWWA, and ANSI standards and hands-on leadership in welding inspection and documentation practices.
Lead visual inspections of welded assemblies including piping systems, tanks, skids, pressure vessels, and structural supports.
Ensure compliance with ASME Section IX, AWS D1.1, AWWA standards, and customer specifications.
Review and approve Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQRs), and Welder Performance Qualifications (WPQs).
Supervise creation and review of inspection records, weld maps, NCRs, and turnover packages.
Ensure full traceability of welds, materials, and qualifications in accordance with project requirements.
Lead internal quality audits and collaborate on third-party and client inspections.
Direct NDT activities and review RT, UT, PT, and MT results for acceptance criteria.
Coordinate with certified NDT personnel and resolve any weld rework or repair plans.
Interpret and validate inspection reports against applicable code and engineering requirements.
Train and mentor junior and mid-level welding inspectors in code interpretation, inspection techniques, and documentation.
Support the development of inspection plans, QA/QC procedures, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Serve as the QA lead on major fabrication or installation projects and interface with clients and engineers.
Code-compliant inspection of welds for water treatment infrastructure
Supervision of welding QA/QC documentation and NDT coordination
Leadership in weld quality, compliance, and inspector mentoring
Active participation in audits, client inspections, and quality improvements
Education:
Associate or technical degree in welding technology, mechanical engineering, or related field preferred
Certifications:
AWS CWI – Required
ASNT Level II in RT, UT, PT, MT – Preferred
OSHA 30, confined space, hot work supervisor certification – Preferred
Experience:
7+ years of welding inspection experience in heavy industrial, water treatment, or pressure equipment environments
Expert knowledge of ASME Section IX, AWS D1.1, AWWA C200/C210, and ANSI/ASME B31.1/B31.3 codes
Proven track record of leading inspections on critical mechanical fabrication projects
