Job Title: Welder (SMAW, GTAW, GMAW – ASME/AWS Qualified) – Power Plant

Job Summary:

We are looking for a skilled and certified Mid-Level Welder to carry out high-quality welding work on pressure piping, boiler components, and structural elements in a power plant environment. The ideal candidate will be proficient in SMAW, GTAW, and GMAW welding processes, and will hold valid ASME Section IX or AWS D1.1 welding certifications. This role involves executing critical welds during construction, maintenance, and shutdowns, while ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities:

Welding Execution:

  • Independently perform SMAW, GTAW, and GMAW welds on carbon steel, stainless steel, and alloy materials.

  • Execute root passes, hot passes, and full-penetration welds for high-pressure piping, boiler tubes, and support structures.

  • Prepare, align, and weld pipe and plate joints in accordance with WPS.

Compliance & Quality:

  • Strictly follow WPS as per ASME Section IX, AWS D1.1, and project-specific requirements.

  • Meet required acceptance criteria during visual inspection, NDT (RT, UT, PT, MT), and dimensional checks.

  • Identify and correct weld defects such as porosity, undercut, and lack of fusion.

Collaboration & Reporting:

  • Work with fitters, fabricators, and QA/QC to ensure smooth execution of fabrication tasks.

  • Assist in welding procedure trials and welder qualification testing.

  • Maintain proper weld logs, material traceability, and joint identification.

Safety & Supervision:

  • Follow hot work permit procedures, gas cylinder handling rules, and confined space safety.

  • Train and guide junior welders/helpers in best practices and safety compliance.

  • Maintain tools and equipment in good condition and ensure a clean work environment.

Key Focus Areas:

  • Execution of high-quality welds for pressure parts, piping, and boiler components

  • Code compliance (ASME/AWS) and defect-free welding practices

  • Support QA/QC inspections and material traceability

  • Mentoring junior welders and promoting safe welding operations

Qualifications and Skills:

Education:

  • ITI / Diploma in Welding Technology or Mechanical Engineering (preferred)

Certifications:

  • Valid WQT as per ASME Section IX or AWS D1.1 for SMAW/GTAW/GMAW processes

Experience:

  • 3–6 years of experience in power plant, oil & gas, or heavy industrial welding

Skills:

  • Proficient in multiple welding positions (1G–6G)

  • Skilled in joint preparation, filler material selection, and defect control

  • Ability to read isometric drawings and interpret welding symbols

  • Knowledge of preheat, interpass temperature, and PWHT requirements
