Job Title: Water Quality Control Engineer

Job Summary:

The Water Quality Control Engineer (Fresher) will assist in monitoring and ensuring the quality of water in treatment plants, distribution systems, and other water management facilities. The engineer will support senior staff in testing water quality parameters, analyzing results, and maintaining compliance with regulatory standards. This is an entry-level position that offers hands-on experience in water quality testing, process control, and environmental monitoring, while learning the various aspects of water treatment processes and standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Water Quality Monitoring:

    • Assist in collecting water samples from various points in the water treatment process, including intake, filtration, disinfection, and distribution systems.
    • Conduct routine tests to measure water quality parameters such as pH, turbidity, chlorine, hardness, biological contaminants (e.g., coliform bacteria), and other chemical properties.
    • Monitor trends in water quality data and assist in maintaining records for regulatory compliance and operational reviews.
  2. Testing and Analysis:

    • Perform water quality tests using laboratory equipment and field test kits under supervision, ensuring proper calibration and maintenance of test instruments.
    • Assist in analyzing water quality results and comparing them against industry standards, local, and national regulations.
    • Help prepare reports on water quality analysis and testing results, highlighting any deviations and recommending corrective actions when necessary.
  3. Regulatory Compliance and Documentation:

    • Support senior engineers in ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations governing water quality.
    • Maintain accurate records of water quality data, test results, and maintenance logs in compliance with regulatory standards.
    • Assist in the preparation of reports for regulatory bodies, ensuring documentation is accurate and up-to-date for audits or inspections.
  4. Process Control and Optimization:

    • Assist in monitoring water treatment processes, including chemical dosing, filtration, and disinfection, ensuring that water quality parameters remain within acceptable limits.
    • Work with senior engineers to optimize water treatment processes for better performance and reduced chemical usage.
    • Learn about various water treatment methods and assist in their implementation to improve water quality.
  5. Equipment Maintenance and Calibration:

    • Assist in maintaining laboratory equipment and field instruments used for water quality testing, ensuring they are calibrated and functioning properly.
    • Support the maintenance of systems such as chlorine analyzers, turbidity meters, and pH probes, under the guidance of senior staff.
    • Ensure proper handling, storage, and disposal of chemicals and samples used in testing to maintain safety standards.
  6. Collaboration and Teamwork:

    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineers, operators, and maintenance staff, to ensure effective monitoring and maintenance of water quality.
    • Participate in team meetings to discuss water quality issues, trends, and potential improvements in processes or testing protocols.
    • Support senior staff in investigating any water quality concerns, conducting root cause analysis, and proposing solutions to improve quality.
  7. Learning and Development:

    • Continuously develop technical knowledge of water treatment processes, water quality standards, and laboratory testing methods.
    • Participate in on-the-job training, workshops, and seminars to build expertise in water quality control and environmental monitoring.
    • Stay updated on new technologies, regulations, and best practices in water quality control and treatment.

  • Regulatory Compliance: Help ensure compliance with water quality standards and regulations.
  • Testing and Data Analysis: Support the collection, testing, and analysis of water samples, and help maintain accurate records.
  • Process Control Optimization: Learn and assist in optimizing water treatment processes to improve quality and efficiency.
  • Learning and Development: Build expertise in water quality control and treatment through practical experience and training.

Skills and Knowledge Required:

  • Basic understanding of water quality parameters (e.g., pH, turbidity, chlorine, biological contaminants) and their role in water treatment processes.
  • Familiarity with laboratory techniques and water quality testing methods is a plus.
  • Willingness to learn and develop expertise in water quality testing, laboratory equipment, and process control.
  • Strong attention to detail, ensuring accurate data collection and system operation.
  • Basic understanding of environmental regulations and water quality standards.
  • Good communication skills to work effectively within a team and collaborate with other departments.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work under supervision in a lab or field environment.

Educational Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Basic coursework or certifications in water quality control, water treatment processes, or environmental science is advantageous.

Experience:

  • No prior professional experience required, but internships or academic projects related to water treatment, environmental monitoring, or water quality control are beneficial.

Tools and Technologies:

  • Familiarity with water quality testing instruments and laboratory equipment such as turbidity meters, pH meters, and chlorine analyzers.
  • Basic understanding of SCADA systems and data logging for water quality monitoring is a plus.

Other Requirements:

  • Strong interest in environmental science and water quality management.
  • Ability to learn quickly and contribute to daily operations in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to work in both field and laboratory environments, including handling water samples and chemicals.
  • Good time management and organizational skills to support routine monitoring and testing schedules.
