The Senior Vehicle Technician – Mechanical Diagnostics is a seasoned expert responsible for leading complex diagnostics, mechanical troubleshooting, and system repair across a wide range of automotive platforms. This role supports prototype, pre-production, and fleet vehicles by isolating mechanical faults, implementing repairs, and guiding root cause investigations. The technician serves as a go-to resource for high-difficulty diagnostic cases, mentors junior team members, and collaborates with engineering teams to validate and improve system designs.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead mechanical diagnostics and repairs for powertrain, chassis, suspension, cooling, and driveline systems.
Utilize advanced diagnostic tools (scan tools, oscilloscopes, pressure gauges, etc.) to interpret system data and fault codes.
Perform component-level disassembly, inspection, testing, and reassembly with minimal supervision.
Support validation and R&D programs by diagnosing and resolving system-level mechanical issues.
Collaborate with engineering teams to provide technical feedback and participate in root cause analysis for system failures.
Document all diagnostic steps, part changes, and resolutions in compliance with traceability protocols.
Mentor and train mid-level and junior technicians on diagnostic procedures, tool usage, and mechanical best practices.
Ensure adherence to safety, quality, and procedural standards within diagnostic and repair environments.

Qualifications & Skills:
Education:
Associate degree, technical diploma, or trade certification in Automotive Technology or Mechanical Systems
OEM technical certifications or ASE Master Technician credentials are a plus
Experience:
6+ years of hands-on experience in mechanical diagnostics, troubleshooting, and system repair in automotive environments
Experience with prototype vehicles, validation testing, or development programs preferred
Technical Skills:
Expert in interpreting diagnostic data, service literature, and schematics
Skilled in the use of diagnostic software, scan tools, oscilloscopes, and mechanical testing instruments
Deep understanding of mechanical system interactions and failure modes
