Utilities Supervisor – HVAC and Refrigeration

Roles & Responsibilities

We are seeking a proactive and technically skilled Junior Utilities Supervisor – HVAC and Refrigeration to support the supervision, monitoring, and maintenance of utility systems critical to HVAC and refrigeration operations in a food manufacturing environment. The ideal candidate will have foundational experience in industrial utility systems, a commitment to hygiene and safety, and the ability to work closely with senior staff to ensure compliance and operational continuity.


Key Responsibilities:

1. System Monitoring & Maintenance

  • Assist in the daily operation, inspection, and routine maintenance of:

    • Chillers and cooling towers

    • Air handling units (AHUs) and ventilation systems

    • Refrigeration systems (Freon/ammonia)

    • Compressed air and water-cooled systems

  • Support preventive maintenance tasks to ensure maximum equipment reliability and energy efficiency.

  • Monitor system performance and report anomalies to senior staff promptly.

2. Food Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure that utility systems operate in accordance with food industry hygiene standards (HACCP, GMP, ISO).

  • Maintain clean and safe mechanical spaces, complying with regulatory and audit requirements.

  • Assist with documentation for utility-related inspections and audits.

3. Team Support & Coordination

  • Work alongside HVAC and refrigeration technicians to complete scheduled and emergency repairs.

  • Assist in coordinating daily tasks for junior maintenance staff or contractors as delegated.

  • Communicate effectively with production, QA, and maintenance teams regarding operational impacts.

4. Documentation & Reporting

  • Record maintenance activities, system readings, and service histories using CMMS or manual logs.

  • Report spare parts needs and participate in inventory checks of critical utility components.

5. Safety & Emergency Response

  • Follow strict safety protocols during all HVAC/refrigeration work, especially when dealing with high-pressure systems and refrigerants.

  • Respond to utility system alerts and participate in root cause investigations for failures or non-conformances.

Requirements:

  • Diploma/ITI in Mechanical, Refrigeration, or HVAC Engineering (or equivalent).

  • 2–4 years of experience in HVAC, refrigeration, or utilities maintenance in an industrial or food facility environment.

  • Familiarity with HACCP/GMP and cold chain principles.

  • Understanding of basic electrical and mechanical components of HVAC systems.

  • Willingness to work in shifts and under temperature-variable environments.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Exposure to ammonia-based refrigeration systems.

  • Basic knowledge of Building Management Systems (BMS).

  • Familiarity with CMMS tools for logging and scheduling maintenance.
