The Junior Turnaround/Shutdown Instrumentation Lead is responsible for assisting in the planning, execution, and supervision of instrumentation activities during scheduled shutdowns or turnarounds. The role includes coordinating field teams, ensuring instrumentation systems are safely decommissioned and recommissioned, and maintaining compliance with safety and quality standards.
Assist in executing instrumentation scope of work including removal, servicing, calibration, and reinstallation of instruments.
Supervise field technicians in the maintenance of pressure, temperature, level, and flow instruments during shutdowns.
Coordinate loop checking, instrument air flushing, and system readiness verification.
Support in reviewing and interpreting work packs, P&IDs, loop drawings, and IO lists for shutdown preparation.
Track availability and readiness of tools, test equipment, and spares (transmitters, valves, fittings).
Ensure proper staging and tagging of instruments for removal, calibration, and reinstallation.
Ensure safe work execution in hazardous areas (Zone 1/2), following permit-to-work and lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures.
Assist in toolbox talks and reinforce compliance with site safety protocols and PPE use.
Monitor field activities to ensure compliance with instrumentation standards (ISA/IEC) and specifications.
Maintain checklists, calibration certificates, and loop folders for QA/QC clearance.
Record and report deviations, punch points, and support close-out documentation.
Lead a small team of junior technicians and fitters during field activities.
Interface with other disciplines (mechanical, electrical, operations) to coordinate access and schedule adherence.
Support communication between contractor teams and client supervisors.
Basic understanding of instrumentation systems, devices, and calibration methods.
Familiarity with shutdown procedures, isolation, and recommissioning practices.
Ability to read P&IDs, loop drawings, hook-up diagrams.
Skilled in the use of test equipment (HART communicator, multimeter, pressure calibrator).
Strong coordination, communication, and documentation skills.
Diploma / ITI in Instrumentation, Electronics, or related field
2–4 years of experience in instrumentation maintenance, preferably in shutdowns, turnarounds, or oil & gas facilities
Exposure to refinery, petrochemical, or thermal power plant environments preferred
