Job Title: Turbine Controls Engineer

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Mid-Level Turbine Controls Engineer to join our engineering team. In this role, you will take on increased responsibility for designing, programming, and troubleshooting control systems for turbine operations. You will work independently on complex projects while collaborating with senior engineers and cross-functional teams to ensure efficient, reliable, and safe turbine control systems.

Key Responsibilities:

Control System Design & Programming:

  • Develop and refine control system solutions for turbine operations using PLCs, HMIs, and SCADA platforms.
  • Program and configure control logic, control algorithms, and software routines to ensure precise turbine control.
  • Assist in updating control system architectures and interfacing with turbine components to enhance performance and reliability.

Testing & Commissioning:

  • Oversee system testing and commissioning activities, including calibration and performance validation of control systems.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve intermediate to complex control system issues using advanced diagnostic tools.
  • Ensure that control system modifications comply with technical specifications and operational requirements.

Documentation & Reporting:

  • Prepare comprehensive technical documentation, including control system designs, test procedures, and commissioning reports.
  • Maintain accurate records of system modifications, performance data, and troubleshooting procedures.
  • Report findings and recommend corrective actions to improve system efficiency and reliability.

Collaboration & Continuous Improvement:

  • Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and turbine engineering teams to integrate control systems seamlessly with overall turbine operations.
  • Contribute to process improvement initiatives by identifying trends and developing solutions to recurring issues.
  • Mentor junior engineers and technicians in control system design and troubleshooting best practices.

  • Advanced Control System Development: Enhance and optimize turbine control strategies to improve system performance.
  • System Integration & Validation: Ensure robust integration of control systems with turbine hardware and perform detailed system validations.
  • Troubleshooting & Maintenance: Develop and implement effective troubleshooting protocols and preventive maintenance strategies.
  • Process Optimization: Drive continuous improvement initiatives in control system design and operational procedures.
  • Collaboration & Mentorship: Foster cross-functional teamwork and support the development of junior staff through knowledge sharing.

Qualifications and Skills:

Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, Automation, or a related field.
  • Relevant coursework or projects in control systems, automation, or turbine technology are advantageous.

Experience:

  • 3-5 years of professional experience in control system design, programming, and troubleshooting, preferably in turbine or similar industrial applications.
  • Demonstrated experience with PLC programming, HMI configuration, and SCADA systems.

Skills:

  • Proficiency with control system design and simulation tools (e.g., MATLAB, LabVIEW, or similar).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, schematics, and system documentation.

Certifications (Preferred):

  • Relevant certifications or training in control systems, automation, or industrial instrumentation are beneficial.
  • Basic safety certifications (e.g., OSHA, First Aid/CPR) are an advantage.
