Job Title: Turbine Control Engineer
Job Summary:
The Senior Turbine Control Engineer is responsible for leading the design, implementation, maintenance, and optimization of turbine control systems in power generation facilities. This role involves managing large-scale projects, troubleshooting advanced issues, and ensuring that all systems, including SCADA, Distributed Control Systems (DCS), turbines, generators, boilers, and safety systems, operate reliably and efficiently. The engineer provides technical leadership, mentors junior team members, and collaborates with cross-functional teams to drive innovation and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
System Design and Implementation:
- Lead the design and integration of turbine control systems for turbines, generators, and boilers in thermal and nuclear power plants.
- Oversee the commissioning and calibration of SCADA and DCS systems to meet operational and compliance standards.
- Validate control logic, interlocks, and system performance to ensure seamless integration and operational efficiency.
System Maintenance and Optimization:
- Manage and execute advanced diagnostics and root cause analysis for complex system issues.
- Develop preventive maintenance programs and oversee their implementation to ensure reliability and reduce downtime.
- Optimize control system parameters and logic for enhanced performance and energy efficiency.
Compliance and Safety:
- Ensure all turbine control systems comply with industry standards (e.g., IEC, ISA) and regulatory requirements.
- Conduct and lead safety risk assessments, implementing corrective actions to mitigate hazards.
- Oversee the testing and validation of safety and emergency shutdown systems to ensure operational readiness.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Prepare detailed technical reports on system performance, diagnostics, and project outcomes for stakeholders and management.
- Maintain accurate documentation of system configurations, test results, and compliance records.
- Develop and refine standard operating procedures (SOPs) and best practices for turbine control systems.
Leadership and Collaboration:
- Mentor and provide technical leadership to junior and mid-level engineers, fostering professional development.
- Collaborate with operations, maintenance, and safety teams to align turbine control activities with organizational goals.
- Act as a subject matter expert and key technical liaison for clients, vendors, and regulatory authorities.
Project Management:
- Lead large-scale turbine control projects, including system upgrades, retrofits, and new installations.
- Develop and manage project schedules, budgets, and resource plans, ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery.
- Identify and mitigate risks during project execution, ensuring quality and compliance.
Innovation and Continuous Improvement:
- Evaluate and implement emerging technologies to improve turbine control systems and processes.
- Lead initiatives to upgrade legacy systems, integrating advanced tools and automation solutions.
- Stay updated with advancements in turbine control technologies and recommend their adoption to improve operations.
Key Focus Areas:
- Power Generation Control Systems: Lead the operation, maintenance, and optimization of turbine, generator, and boiler control systems.
- SCADA and Distributed Control Systems (DCS): Oversee the configuration, testing, and troubleshooting of SCADA and DCS platforms.
- Thermal and Nuclear Plant Control Systems: Manage control systems specific to thermal and nuclear power generation processes.
- Safety and Emergency Shutdown Systems: Validate and optimize safety-critical systems to ensure compliance and operational readiness.
Skills and Knowledge Required:
- Expert knowledge of turbine control systems, including SCADA, DCS, and advanced control logic programming.
- Advanced proficiency in industrial communication protocols such as Modbus, Profibus, and HART.
- Strong diagnostic and analytical skills for troubleshooting and optimizing complex systems.
- Comprehensive understanding of safety regulations, risk management, and emergency procedures.
- Proven expertise in leading system design, integration, and optimization projects.
Educational Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Advanced certifications in SCADA, DCS, or turbine control systems (e.g., Siemens, ABB, Honeywell) are highly desirable.
Experience:
- 7-10 years of experience in turbine control systems, with a proven track record in leading projects and optimizing operations.
- Demonstrated expertise in managing complex systems and troubleshooting advanced issues in power generation environments.
Tools and Technologies:
- Proficiency in advanced diagnostic tools such as oscilloscopes, thermal cameras, and vibration analyzers.
- Expertise in software platforms like Siemens TIA Portal, Honeywell Experion, ABB DCS, or Yokogawa CENTUM.
- Familiarity with data analytics and performance monitoring tools for system optimization.
