Job Title: Turbine Control Engineer

Job Summary:

The Turbine Control Manager is responsible for overseeing the planning, execution, and management of turbine control systems in power generation facilities. This role includes leading teams, ensuring compliance with regulatory and safety standards, managing large-scale projects, and optimizing systems for performance and efficiency. The Manager serves as the primary liaison with stakeholders, driving innovation and aligning turbine control operations with organizational goals.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership and Team Management:

  • Lead and manage a team of engineers and technicians responsible for turbine control systems.
  • Define team objectives, allocate resources, and ensure alignment with organizational priorities.
  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to team members, fostering professional development.

System Oversight and Optimization:

  • Oversee the operation, maintenance, and optimization of turbine control systems, including SCADA, DCS, and safety mechanisms.
  • Ensure the proper calibration, integration, and functionality of turbine control systems for generators, boilers, and auxiliary systems.
  • Lead initiatives to upgrade legacy systems and integrate modern technologies for enhanced performance.

Project Management:

  • Manage large-scale turbine control projects, including commissioning, retrofitting, and system enhancements.
  • Develop project plans, including schedules, budgets, and resource allocation, ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery.
  • Identify and mitigate risks during project execution to ensure adherence to quality and safety standards.

Compliance and Safety:

  • Ensure all turbine control activities comply with industry standards (e.g., IEC, ISA) and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct safety audits, risk assessments, and emergency system validations.
  • Oversee the implementation and testing of safety-critical systems, including emergency shutdown mechanisms.

Stakeholder Engagement and Reporting:

  • Act as the primary point of contact for clients, contractors, and regulatory bodies regarding turbine control operations.
  • Prepare and present detailed reports on system performance, project status, and compliance metrics to senior management and stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure turbine control systems align with operational goals and client requirements.

Innovation and Continuous Improvement:

  • Drive innovation by evaluating and adopting emerging technologies to enhance turbine control operations.
  • Implement advanced diagnostic tools, predictive maintenance practices, and optimization techniques.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and advancements to maintain technical excellence.

Key Focus Areas:

  • Power Generation Control Systems: Manage turbine, generator, and boiler control systems to ensure operational reliability.
  • SCADA and Distributed Control Systems (DCS): Oversee testing, configuration, and optimization of SCADA and DCS platforms.
  • Thermal and Nuclear Plant Control Systems: Lead the management and optimization of control systems for thermal and nuclear power plants.
  • Safety and Emergency Shutdown Systems: Ensure the operational readiness and compliance of safety-critical systems.

Skills and Knowledge Required:

  • Extensive knowledge of turbine control systems, including SCADA, DCS, and PLC programming.
  • Advanced understanding of industrial communication protocols such as Modbus, Profibus, and HART.
  • Expertise in safety regulations, risk management, and emergency response protocols.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for optimizing control system performance.
  • Proven ability to manage large-scale projects and lead multidisciplinary teams.

Educational Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Certifications in SCADA, DCS, or project management (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2) are highly desirable.

Experience:

  • 10+ years of experience in turbine control systems, with at least 3-5 years in a managerial role.
  • Demonstrated expertise in leading large teams and managing complex projects in power generation environments.

Tools and Technologies:

  • Proficiency in advanced diagnostic tools such as oscilloscopes, vibration analyzers, and thermal cameras.
  • Expertise in software platforms like Siemens TIA Portal, Honeywell Experion, ABB DCS, or Yokogawa CENTUM.
  • Familiarity with data analytics tools for monitoring and improving system performance.
