Job Title: Turbine Control Engineer

Job Summary:

The Junior Turbine Control Engineer is responsible for executing and supporting the operation, maintenance, and optimization of turbine control systems in power generation facilities. This role involves ensuring the reliability and performance of systems such as turbines, generators, boilers, SCADA, and Distributed Control Systems (DCS). The engineer works on routine tasks with minimal supervision and contributes to troubleshooting and commissioning activities.

Key Responsibilities:

System Operation and Maintenance:

  • Perform routine maintenance and inspections of turbine control systems, ensuring proper functionality and reliability.
  • Monitor and calibrate SCADA and DCS systems to maintain seamless operations.
  • Assist in upgrading and optimizing turbine control systems for improved efficiency and performance.

Testing and Troubleshooting:

  • Conduct testing and basic diagnostics to identify and resolve issues in turbine control systems.
  • Support senior engineers in root cause analysis for system faults and recommend corrective actions.
  • Troubleshoot safety and emergency shutdown systems to ensure compliance and readiness.

Compliance and Safety:

  • Ensure adherence to safety standards and protocols during turbine system maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Participate in safety risk assessments and assist in implementing mitigation strategies.
  • Conduct periodic testing of emergency shutdown systems to validate operational safety.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain detailed logs of maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting activities.
  • Prepare basic technical reports on turbine system performance and identified issues for internal review.
  • Ensure all documentation complies with regulatory and industry standards.

Collaboration and Learning:

  • Work closely with operations, maintenance, and safety teams to align turbine control activities with project objectives.
  • Support commissioning activities for new installations or system upgrades.
  • Participate in training sessions to deepen knowledge of advanced turbine control systems and safety mechanisms.

Key Focus Areas:

  • Power Generation Control Systems: Maintain and troubleshoot control systems for turbines, generators, and boilers.
  • SCADA and Distributed Control Systems (DCS): Monitor and optimize SCADA/DCS platforms to ensure reliability.
  • Thermal and Nuclear Plant Control Systems: Contribute to the maintenance and testing of turbine control systems specific to thermal and nuclear plants.
  • Safety and Emergency Shutdown Systems: Support testing and troubleshooting of safety-critical systems to ensure compliance.

Skills and Knowledge Required:

  • Proficient understanding of turbine control systems and their integration with power generation equipment.
  • Familiarity with SCADA and DCS systems, as well as basic control logic and interlocks.
  • Basic knowledge of industrial communication protocols such as Modbus, Profibus, and HART.
  • Analytical and troubleshooting skills for identifying and resolving system issues.
  • Awareness of safety regulations and best practices in power generation operations.

Educational Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Certifications or training in SCADA, DCS, or turbine control systems are highly desirable.

Experience:

  • 1-2 years of experience in turbine control systems or related power generation systems.
  • Hands-on experience with testing, calibrating, or maintaining control systems in an industrial environment is preferred.

Tools and Technologies:

  • Proficiency with tools such as multimeters, loop calibrators, and signal generators.
  • Familiarity with software platforms like Siemens TIA Portal, Honeywell Experion, ABB DCS, or Yokogawa CENTUM.

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to manage tasks independently while adhering to safety and quality standards.
  • Commitment to learning advanced turbine control systems and contributing to operational excellence.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites and participate in on-site activities.
