The Senior Testing Lab Supervisor – HVAC Performance is a leadership role responsible for managing all aspects of HVAC product performance testing within a dedicated laboratory environment. This position oversees lab personnel, ensures compliance with industry standards, and acts as the technical authority for test execution, method development, and data integrity. The senior supervisor collaborates closely with R&D, product development, regulatory, and quality teams to validate HVAC system performance and support new product introductions, certification, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Oversee the full operation of the HVAC performance testing laboratory, including capacity planning, prioritization, and resource allocation.
Define and enforce testing protocols and standard operating procedures based on AHRI, ASHRAE, ISO, and DOE standards.
Lead lab readiness for third-party certifications, regulatory audits, and product release milestones.
Supervise and mentor a cross-functional team of test engineers, lab technicians, and test planners.
Drive training programs, technical development, and performance evaluations.
Foster a culture of safety, accuracy, accountability, and continuous learning.
Provide expert guidance on test setup design, instrumentation, sensor placement, DAQ configurations, and environmental chamber control.
Evaluate complex test data for accuracy, repeatability, and engineering insight.
Resolve escalated technical issues related to system behavior, anomalous results, or equipment performance.
Serve as the primary lab liaison for product engineering, quality, regulatory, and product management teams.
Support development of new HVAC systems, prototypes, and experimental units by providing timely and high-quality validation.
Participate in design reviews, FMEA discussions, and change control processes.
Ensure full adherence to regulatory and certification standards (e.g., AHRI 210/240, ASHRAE 37, UL 1995, ISO 13256).
Oversee lab audits, calibration schedules, preventive maintenance, and data traceability.
Lead initiatives to improve test accuracy, reliability, and documentation quality.
Analyze and present test performance trends, lab throughput metrics, and failure data to senior engineering leadership.
Drive process optimization, test automation, and lab efficiency through lean tools and digitalization.
Contribute to long-term lab expansion planning, new equipment justification, and capital budget preparation.

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, HVAC Engineering, or a closely related field (required)
Master’s degree or technical certifications (e.g., PMP, Six Sigma, LEED) preferred
8–12+ years in HVAC testing, R&D, or engineering validation environments
3–5 years of lab supervision or leadership in a high-tech or regulated setting
Demonstrated experience with AHRI/ASHRAE/ISO-compliant test methods and instrumentation
Expert knowledge of HVAC performance metrics, DAQ systems (e.g., LabVIEW, iTest), and psychrometrics
Strong analytical and decision-making abilities with a detail-oriented approach to test execution
Proven leadership, communication, and conflict-resolution skills
Familiarity with lean lab practices, calibration systems, and product lifecycle management tools
Experience with regulatory agency audits and certification processes
