The Mid-Level Testing Lab Supervisor – HVAC Performance oversees day-to-day operations in an HVAC testing laboratory, focusing on performance testing of air conditioners, heat pumps, chillers, and related systems. This role supervises lab technicians, manages test scheduling and execution, ensures compliance with industry standards (AHRI, ASHRAE, ISO), and provides technical support to R&D, product development, and quality engineering teams. The supervisor ensures accurate, timely, and safe testing to support the launch and continuous improvement of HVAC products.
Supervise performance testing of HVAC systems, including setup, instrumentation, and data acquisition.
Ensure tests are conducted per protocols and in compliance with standards such as AHRI 210/240, ISO 13256, and ASHRAE 37.
Manage lab scheduling to support R&D, product validation, and compliance testing requirements.
Lead and mentor a team of lab technicians and test engineers.
Assign daily tasks, monitor test execution, and ensure accurate data collection and reporting.
Provide technical training and performance feedback to staff.
Oversee test setups, sensor calibration, environmental chamber operation, and HVAC unit instrumentation.
Review test plans, evaluate test data, and troubleshoot anomalies or equipment malfunctions.
Collaborate with product engineering teams to refine test parameters and resolve technical issues.
Ensure all testing activities comply with internal quality protocols and external standards (UL, DOE, ISO).
Maintain safety standards, oversee hazardous material handling (e.g., refrigerants), and enforce PPE compliance.
Support audits, quality reviews, and root cause investigations as needed.
Review and approve test reports, ensure traceability of data, and maintain documentation for certifications and design validation.
Use lab management software and data acquisition systems (e.g., LabVIEW, iTest, or equivalent).
Contribute to test method development and standard operating procedure (SOP) updates.

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, HVAC Technology, or a related technical field (required)
4–7 years of experience in HVAC product testing, validation, or R&D
At least 2 years in a lead or supervisory role within a lab environment
Experience with test standards such as AHRI, ASHRAE, or ISO required
Proficient in HVAC performance testing, airflow and thermodynamic measurements
Skilled in use of test instrumentation, DAQ systems, and lab software tools
Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret complex test data
Excellent leadership, communication, and team coordination skills
Familiarity with lean lab practices and continuous improvement is a plus
