The Testing Lab Supervisor – HVAC Performance (Junior Level) is responsible for assisting in the day-to-day operations of an HVAC performance testing laboratory. This role ensures that HVAC equipment (e.g., air conditioners, heat pumps, chillers, and air handlers) is tested according to defined protocols and industry standards. The junior supervisor supports test planning, equipment setup, data collection, safety, and documentation while working under the guidance of senior lab engineers or managers.
Assist in setting up test rigs, instrumentation, and HVAC units for performance testing.
Execute defined test procedures for airflow, cooling/heating capacity, electrical input, and energy efficiency.
Monitor lab test runs and capture real-time data using lab software and data acquisition systems.
Support daily operation of the performance testing lab, including basic calibration, equipment maintenance, and cleanliness.
Ensure test equipment and instruments are properly maintained and meet calibration standards.
Help troubleshoot issues with instrumentation or test setups during testing activities.
Record test data accurately and prepare initial test summaries or reports for review.
Maintain detailed records of test conditions, results, and anomalies.
Assist in ensuring all test documentation complies with internal protocols and industry regulations (e.g., AHRI, ASHRAE, ISO).
Follow lab safety protocols, PPE requirements, and safe handling of refrigerants and electrical equipment.
Ensure compliance with OSHA, environmental regulations, and company-specific EHS standards.
Report any unsafe conditions or incidents promptly.
Work closely with lab engineers, product development teams, and quality personnel.
Support prototype evaluation, validation testing, and benchmarking efforts.
Participate in training sessions on HVAC testing methods and lab instrumentation.
Performance testing of HVAC units (capacity, efficiency, airflow)
Basic supervision and support of lab operations
Safety, documentation, and quality of test execution
Collaboration with cross-functional engineering and QA teams
Associate degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology, HVAC Technology, or related field (required)
Bachelor’s degree preferred but not mandatory for junior-level candidates
1–3 years of experience in an HVAC testing lab, R&D, or product validation environment
Prior hands-on experience with HVAC systems, instrumentation, or lab equipment preferred
Basic knowledge of HVAC systems, thermodynamics, and airflow measurement
Familiarity with testing standards such as AHRI 210/240, ASHRAE 37, or ISO 13256 is a plus
Ability to use lab software, data acquisition tools, and basic hand tools
Good attention to detail, documentation skills, and safety awareness
Willingness to learn and grow in a structured laboratory environment
