Job Title: Temperature Calibration Engineer

Job Summary:

The Temperature Calibration Engineer Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing the calibration of temperature measurement instruments used in manufacturing and industrial processes. This includes temperature sensors, thermocouples, resistance temperature detectors (RTDs), temperature transmitters, and other related devices. The manager will lead a team of calibration engineers, ensure compliance with quality and regulatory standards, and develop calibration procedures to improve accuracy and efficiency. This role involves driving continuous improvements, ensuring system performance, maintaining calibration records, and mentoring team members.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Leadership and Team Management:

    • Lead and manage a team of temperature calibration engineers, providing technical guidance, training, and support.
    • Set team goals and objectives, manage performance, and ensure the calibration team meets production schedules and quality standards.
    • Foster a collaborative work environment, ensuring that team members have the resources and support needed to perform their tasks efficiently.
    • Mentor junior engineers and technicians, supporting their professional development and career growth within the calibration field.
  2. Temperature Calibration Process Management:

    • Oversee the development, implementation, and execution of temperature calibration procedures for a wide range of temperature measurement instruments (e.g., thermocouples, RTDs, temperature transmitters).
    • Ensure calibration procedures are aligned with industry standards (e.g., ISO, ASTM) and regulatory requirements.
    • Review and update calibration protocols to improve accuracy, reliability, and efficiency of temperature measurement systems.
  3. System Optimization and Equipment Maintenance:

    • Ensure all temperature measurement devices are calibrated to meet operational specifications, compliance standards, and customer requirements.
    • Drive continuous improvement in calibration processes, identifying inefficiencies or bottlenecks and recommending solutions.
    • Oversee routine maintenance and calibration of temperature calibration equipment, ensuring calibration tools and systems are always functioning optimally.
  4. Project Management and Execution:

    • Manage and oversee large-scale temperature calibration projects, ensuring that they are completed on time, within budget, and to specification.
    • Coordinate resources, schedules, and cross-functional teams to ensure timely completion of projects.
    • Ensure the successful implementation of new temperature measurement devices or upgrades to existing systems within manufacturing processes.
  5. Quality Assurance and Compliance:

    • Ensure all calibration activities comply with relevant quality standards, regulatory requirements, and safety protocols.
    • Oversee the maintenance of calibration records, certificates, and reports, ensuring traceability and adherence to compliance guidelines.
    • Prepare for and participate in internal and external audits, ensuring calibration practices meet both internal and external compliance standards.
  6. Troubleshooting and Problem Resolution:

    • Provide leadership in troubleshooting issues related to temperature calibration systems, addressing discrepancies, calibration errors, or inaccuracies.
    • Collaborate with production, maintenance, and engineering teams to resolve any calibration-related issues that affect manufacturing processes.
    • Ensure that corrective actions are taken promptly, minimizing downtime and ensuring the accuracy of temperature measurement systems.
  7. Data Collection, Reporting, and Analysis:

    • Oversee the collection of calibration data, ensuring that records are complete, accurate, and up-to-date.
    • Analyze data to identify trends, performance issues, or opportunities for improvement in the calibration process.
    • Generate reports and provide recommendations to senior management on calibration performance, efficiency, and improvements.
  8. Training and Development:

    • Develop and lead training programs for the calibration team and other relevant staff members on temperature measurement systems, calibration procedures, and troubleshooting techniques.
    • Ensure that all team members are trained in industry best practices and stay current with developments in calibration technologies and methodologies.
    • Stay updated with new calibration technologies, industry standards, and innovations to continually enhance the calibration process.
  9. Budget and Resource Management:

    • Oversee the budget for the calibration department, ensuring resources are allocated efficiently and costs are controlled.
    • Manage the procurement of calibration tools, instruments, and software, ensuring that all necessary equipment is available when needed.
    • Monitor calibration-related expenses and make recommendations for cost-effective solutions without compromising system accuracy or performance.

Skills and Knowledge Required:

  • Extensive knowledge of temperature measurement technologies, including thermocouples, RTDs, temperature transmitters, and calibration techniques.
  • Strong understanding of calibration standards (e.g., ISO 17025) and regulatory requirements (e.g., ASTM, NIST).
  • Experience with calibration management software and systems used to track and manage temperature calibration processes.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with the ability to resolve complex issues related to temperature calibration and instrumentation.
  • Knowledge of data analysis tools and techniques for monitoring temperature calibration performance.
  • Excellent communication skills to interact with senior management, cross-functional teams, and external vendors.
  • Strong leadership, mentoring, and team management skills, with a proven ability to develop high-performing teams.

Educational Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Certification in temperature calibration or related fields (e.g., ISO 17025) is highly desirable.

Key Focus Areas :

  • Water Purification and Treatment Systems Control:

    Strategically overseeing the design, implementation, and optimization of temperature calibration and control systems for water purification and treatment processes.
  • Driving innovations and efficiency improvements in temperature control to enhance overall system performance and reliability.
  • Environmental and Regulatory Compliance:

    Ensuring all temperature calibration processes and systems meet environmental standards and regulatory requirements at both local and international levels.
  • Leading compliance audits, managing risk assessments, and ensuring the organization maintains a robust regulatory posture.
  • Monitoring of Water Quality:

    Directing the integration of advanced temperature calibration systems with water quality monitoring technologies to ensure accuracy in parameters such as pH and chlorine levels.
  • Implementing data-driven strategies to improve water quality, leveraging temperature data insights to optimize treatment processes.
  • Leadership and Team Development:

    Managing a team of engineers, fostering a culture of innovation and technical excellence in temperature calibration and control.
  • Providing strategic direction and mentoring to ensure the team aligns with organizational goals and industry best practices.

Experience:

  • 7+ years of experience in temperature calibration, instrumentation, or metrology, with at least 3-5 years in a leadership or managerial role.
  • Proven experience managing temperature calibration teams and driving improvements in calibration processes.
  • Experience with temperature measurement technologies and instrumentation, as well as experience with calibration software and tools.

Tools and Technologies:

  • Proficiency in temperature calibration tools and instruments such as dead weight testers, dry block calibrators, and temperature controllers.
  • Experience with calibration management software (e.g., GageSuite, Bluehill, or similar).
  • Familiarity with industrial automation systems, PLCs, and control systems is a plus.

  • Strong leadership and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple teams and complex projects.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment, meeting deadlines and achieving operational goals.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy and quality in calibration processes.
