Junior - Telecommunications Specialist 

Job Summary: 

A Junior Telecommunications Specialist is responsible for the implementation, support, and maintenance of small to medium-scale telecom systems. This role builds upon foundational telecom knowledge and supports more complex projects while working closely with senior staff. The specialist will focus on configuring systems, monitoring performance, and providing reliable troubleshooting support to ensure seamless voice, video, and data communications. 

Key Responsibilities: 

System Setup & Configuration: 

○ Assist in the installation, configuration, and integration of telecommunications equipment such as VoIP phones, IP-PBX systems, routers, and switches. 

○ Support the setup of cabling systems including copper and fiber optics, ensuring proper termination and signal integrity. 

Operational Support & Troubleshooting: 

○ Provide first-line support to resolve issues related to VoIP connectivity, call quality, and system performance. 

○ Utilize diagnostic tools (e.g., cable testers, signal analyzers) to identify and resolve faults in wiring and hardware. 

○ Escalate complex issues to senior staff while documenting troubleshooting steps and resolutions. 

System Monitoring & Maintenance: 

○ Regularly monitor telecom systems using network management and monitoring tools to detect anomalies, latency issues, and packet loss. 

○ Perform routine maintenance tasks such as firmware upgrades, system reboots, and configuration backups. 

○ Ensure that system logs, call detail records, and performance metrics are accurately maintained for audit and compliance purposes. 

Documentation & Reporting: 

○ Maintain detailed documentation of system configurations, installation procedures, and troubleshooting guides. 

○ Create and update network diagrams that reflect current telecom setups. 

○ Generate periodic reports on system performance and incident resolutions for review by senior management. 

Collaboration & Continuous Learning: 

○ Work closely with the IT and networking teams to ensure seamless integration of telecom systems with broader IT infrastructure. 

○ Participate in training sessions, workshops, and vendor briefings to stay updated on the latest telecommunications technologies and best practices. 

○ Assist in testing new telecom solutions and provide feedback for potential adoption. 

Security & Compliance: 

○ Apply basic security measures to telecom systems, including configuring secure VoIP protocols and monitoring for unauthorized access. 

○ Ensure compliance with internal policies and external regulatory requirements related to telecommunications. 

Skills and Knowledge Required: 

Technical Proficiency: 

○ Solid understanding of VoIP technologies, IP-PBX systems, and unified communications. 

○ Familiarity with telecommunication protocols such as SIP, H.323, and RTP. 

○ Basic networking knowledge including IP addressing, VLAN configuration, and routing principles. 

Diagnostic & Troubleshooting Skills: 

○ Ability to use diagnostic tools (cable testers, multimeters, signal analyzers) to assess system performance and resolve issues. 

○ Strong analytical skills to interpret performance data and identify root causes of technical problems. 

Communication & Documentation: 

○ Excellent verbal and written communication skills to clearly document system configurations and troubleshooting processes. 

○ Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and escalate issues appropriately. 

Automation & Scripting (Bonus): 

○ Basic scripting skills (e.g., PowerShell, Python) are an advantage for automating routine tasks and generating reports. 

Adaptability & Learning: 

○ Eagerness to learn new technologies, adapt to evolving systems, and continuously improve technical knowledge. 

Educational Qualifications: 

● Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications, Information Technology, Electronics, or a related field. 

● Certifications such as Cisco CCNA, CompTIA Network+, or equivalent are preferred. 

Experience: 

● 1-3 years of experience in telecommunications or related network support roles. 

● Prior hands-on experience through internships, projects, or entry-level roles is highly valued. 

Tools and Equipment: 

● VoIP management platforms (e.g., Cisco Unified Communications Manager). 

● Diagnostic equipment such as cable testers, multimeters, and signal analyzers. 

● Network monitoring software (e.g., Nagios, SolarWinds, PRTG). 

● Documentation tools (e.g., Microsoft Visio, Confluence). 

Other Requirements: 

● Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment. 

● Strong problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail. 

● Flexibility to work outside standard hours when necessary for system maintenance or troubleshooting. 

● A proactive mindset with a commitment to ongoing professional development.
