Job Title: Supervisor - Telecommunication Network Engineer

Job Summary

The Supervisor - Telecommunication Network Engineer is a pivotal role responsible for overseeing a dedicated team of engineers and technicians to ensure the stability, efficiency, and security of telecommunication networks. This position involves managing daily network operations, addressing escalated issues, and supervising the maintenance and upgrade of network infrastructure. The supervisor will collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance network performance and implement innovative technologies that align with organizational goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Network Operations Management:
    • Supervise the daily operations of network infrastructure, including LAN, WAN, MPLS, and SD-WAN.
    • Ensure network availability and implement failover mechanisms to maintain service continuity.
    • Monitor network performance using advanced tools such as SolarWinds, Nagios, and PRTG.
    • Oversee network security operations, including firewall management, IDS/IPS, and VPN configurations.
  • Team Leadership and Supervision:
    • Manage a team of network engineers and technicians by assigning tasks and responsibilities effectively.
    • Conduct regular team meetings, training sessions, and performance evaluations to foster professional growth.
    • Mentor junior and mid-level engineers, providing guidance on industry best practices and technical skills.
    • Ensure adherence to standard operating procedures (SOPs) and troubleshooting protocols for consistent performance.
  • Troubleshooting and Issue Resolution:
    • Handle escalations for complex network issues, focusing on minimizing downtime and service disruption.
    • Collaborate with vendors and service providers to resolve connectivity problems efficiently.
    • Perform root cause analysis (RCA) for recurring network failures to implement long-term solutions.
    • Coordinate with other departments (IT, security, data center teams) to resolve multi-layered issues effectively.
  • Network Infrastructure Upgrades & Projects:
    • Assist in the design and implementation of network expansion projects to meet growing demands.
    • Review network architecture and suggest improvements for operational efficiency and performance.
    • Oversee the installation of new telecom equipment, including routers, switches, and fiber optic cables.
    • Ensure network infrastructure complies with industry regulations (ITU, IEEE, ISO) for quality assurance.
  • Compliance, Documentation & Reporting:
    • Maintain up-to-date documentation of network topology, configurations, and policies for reference and compliance.
    • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements (FCC, GDPR, ISO 27001) to mitigate risks.
    • Prepare performance reports, downtime analysis, and network health summaries for senior management review.

Skills and Knowledge Required

Technical Skills:

  • Strong understanding of routing & switching protocols (OSPF, BGP, MPLS, VLANs).

  • Experience with telecom technologies such as fiber optics, RF, LTE, and VoIP.
  • Proficiency in network monitoring tools (Wireshark, PRTG, Nagios, SolarWinds).
  • Knowledge of security best practices, including firewall rules and encryption methods.
  • Familiarity with cloud networking (AWS Direct Connect, Azure ExpressRoute).

Soft Skills:

  • Leadership and team management abilities to inspire and guide the team.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills to address complex issues.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage escalations efficiently.

Educational Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications, Network Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Master’s degree (preferred but not mandatory).
  • Relevant certifications (preferred):
    • CCNP (Cisco Certified Network Professional)
    • JNCIP (Juniper Networks Certified Internet Professional)
    • ITIL Foundation (for process management)

Key Focus Areas

  • Managing network operations and resolving escalations.
  • Supervising engineers and ensuring best practices.
  • Assisting in telecom network expansion projects.

Experience

  • 8–12 years of experience in telecommunications and networking.
  • 3+ years in a supervisory or team lead role.

Tools and Equipment

  • Network infrastructure devices (Cisco, Juniper, Nokia, Huawei).
  • Security appliances (Palo Alto, Fortinet, Checkpoint).
  • Cable testing and fiber optic tools (OTDR, splicing machines).

Other Requirements

  • Availability for on-call support and emergency troubleshooting.
  • Ability to travel to network sites as required.
