Job Title: Mid-Level - Telecommunication Network Engineer

Job Summary

A Mid-Level Telecommunication Network Engineer plays a crucial role in the deployment, configuration, and maintenance of telecommunications network infrastructure. This position involves working collaboratively with cross-functional teams to ensure optimal network performance, reliability, and security. The engineer will be responsible for troubleshooting complex network issues, optimizing bandwidth allocation, and implementing robust security measures to protect the network from potential threats. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical skills, a proactive approach to problem-solving, and a commitment to maintaining high standards of network performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, install, configure, and maintain telecommunications networks to ensure seamless connectivity and performance.
  • Manage routing and switching protocols, including OSPF, BGP, and MPLS, to facilitate efficient data transmission.
  • Troubleshoot network outages, latency issues, and packet loss, implementing timely solutions to minimize downtime.
  • Optimize bandwidth allocation and Quality of Service (QoS) to enhance user experience and application performance.
  • Implement security policies, firewalls, and VPNs to safeguard the network against unauthorized access and cyber threats.
  • Work with fiber optics, wireless technologies, and VoIP systems to support diverse communication needs.
  • Assist in capacity planning and network scaling to accommodate future growth and technological advancements.
  • Maintain compliance with industry standards and regulations to ensure the integrity and security of the network infrastructure.

Skills and Knowledge Required

  • Strong understanding of networking concepts, including IPv4, IPv6, VLANs, NAT, and ACLs.
  • Experience with network monitoring and diagnostic tools to proactively manage network health.
  • Hands-on knowledge of telecommunication standards such as ITU, IEEE, and 3GPP.
  • Ability to configure firewalls, IDS/IPS, and VPNs for enhanced network security.
  • Good scripting skills in languages such as Python, Bash, or PowerShell for automation tasks.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize tasks effectively.

Educational Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications, Network Engineering, or a related field.
  • Certifications (preferred): CCNP, JNCIP, or equivalent.

Key Focus Areas

  • Optimizing network performance and reliability through proactive management and troubleshooting.
  • Handling escalated troubleshooting cases to resolve complex network issues efficiently.
  • Working on network security and automation to enhance overall network resilience.

Experience

  • 3–5 years of experience in telecommunications networking, demonstrating a solid track record of successful network management.

Tools and Equipment

  • Advanced network monitoring tools such as Nagios, SolarWinds, and Cacti.
  • Networking hardware from leading manufacturers like Cisco, Juniper, and Nokia.
  • Security appliances including Palo Alto, Fortinet, and Cisco ASA for robust network protection.

Other Requirements

  • Availability for on-call support to address urgent network issues as they arise.
  • Willingness to work on infrastructure upgrades and maintenance windows to ensure continuous network improvement.
