Job Title: Manager - Telecommunication Network Engineer

Job Summary

The Manager - Telecommunication Network Engineer is a pivotal role within our organization, responsible for the strategic planning, budgeting, and execution of network infrastructure projects. This position ensures the efficiency, security, and scalability of telecommunication networks, which are critical to our business operations. The manager will lead a team of skilled professionals, oversee vendor contracts, and align network engineering goals with overarching business objectives to drive growth and innovation in our telecommunications services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Network Planning & Business Alignment:
    • Develop short-term and long-term network expansion strategies to support business growth.
    • Define goals and KPIs for network performance and reliability to ensure optimal service delivery.
    • Align network engineering initiatives with business growth objectives to enhance operational efficiency.
    • Evaluate emerging telecom technologies such as 5G, SDN, and NFV for potential adoption and integration.
  • Budgeting, Procurement, and Vendor Management:
    • Prepare and manage budgets for network infrastructure projects, ensuring financial accountability.
    • Negotiate contracts with telecom service providers and hardware vendors to secure favorable terms.
    • Ensure cost optimization while maintaining high service quality and performance standards.
    • Collaborate with suppliers to source telecom hardware and software solutions that meet organizational needs.
  • Leadership & Team Development:
    • Lead a team of network engineers, supervisors, and specialists, fostering a collaborative work environment.
    • Drive professional development through training programs and certifications to enhance team skills.
    • Set performance goals and conduct annual reviews to ensure team accountability and growth.
  • Network Infrastructure Management & Optimization:
    • Oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of core telecom networks to ensure reliability.
    • Ensure high availability and redundancy for mission-critical services to minimize downtime.
    • Develop disaster recovery plans and business continuity strategies to safeguard operations.
  • Security & Compliance:
    • Implement security best practices to protect telecom infrastructure from cyber threats and vulnerabilities.
    • Ensure compliance with global and regional telecom regulations such as FCC, ITU, and GDPR.
    • Work closely with cybersecurity teams to identify and mitigate risks associated with network operations.
  • Performance Monitoring & Reporting:
    • Utilize analytics to track network efficiency and identify areas for improvement and optimization.
    • Generate executive-level reports on network performance, uptime, and associated costs for stakeholders.

Skills and Knowledge Required

Technical Skills:

  • Advanced knowledge of telecom network design and architecture.
  • Strong understanding of BGP, MPLS, SDN, NFV, and cloud networking technologies.
  • Experience with high-availability, disaster recovery, and redundancy planning.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity frameworks such as NIST and ISO 27001.

Soft Skills:

  • Strong leadership and decision-making capabilities.
  • Business and financial acumen to manage budgets effectively.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders clearly.

Educational Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications, Network Engineering, or a related field.
  • Master’s degree preferred, especially in Business Administration or IT Management.

Certifications (Preferred)

  • CCIE (Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert)
  • JNCIE (Juniper Networks Certified Internet Expert)
  • PMP (Project Management Professional) for handling large projects.

Experience

  • 12–15+ years in telecommunications and networking.
  • 5+ years in a managerial or leadership role.

Tools and Equipment

  • Security appliances (Palo Alto, Fortinet, Cisco ASA).
  • Network simulation tools (GNS3, EVE-NG).
