Job Title:  Junior - Telecommunication Network Engineer

Job Summary

A Junior Telecommunication Network Engineer is responsible for assisting in the installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of telecommunication network systems. This role involves working under the supervision of senior engineers while gaining hands-on experience in network operations and infrastructure management. The ideal candidate will have a foundational understanding of networking concepts and a passion for developing their skills in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in configuring routers, switches, and other networking devices to ensure optimal performance and connectivity.
  • Support network installations and troubleshoot telecom systems to resolve issues promptly and efficiently.
  • Monitor network performance and provide basic diagnostics to identify and rectify potential problems.
  • Assist in maintaining network documentation, diagrams, and reports to ensure accurate records of network configurations and changes.
  • Work with structured cabling systems, fiber optics, and RF technologies to support network infrastructure.
  • Provide support for VoIP, WAN, and LAN connectivity issues, ensuring reliable communication services.
  • Learn and apply basic networking protocols such as TCP/IP, OSPF, and BGP to enhance network functionality.
  • Follow standard operating procedures and safety regulations to maintain a safe working environment.

Skills and Knowledge Required

  • Basic knowledge of network topologies (LAN, WAN, MAN).
  • Understanding of networking protocols (IP addressing, DHCP, DNS).
  • Familiarity with telecommunications infrastructure (fiber optics, copper cabling).
  • Basic troubleshooting skills for connectivity and performance issues.
  • Good problem-solving and analytical skills to address technical challenges effectively.
  • Effective communication and teamwork abilities to collaborate with colleagues and stakeholders.

Educational Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications, Network Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Certifications (preferred but not mandatory): CCNA, JNCIA, or equivalent.

Key Focus Areas

  • Learning and applying basic networking concepts to real-world scenarios.
  • Assisting in network deployments and maintenance tasks to gain practical experience.
  • Gaining exposure to telecom network monitoring tools to enhance monitoring capabilities.

Experience

  • 0–2 years of experience in telecommunications or networking.

Tools and Equipment

  • Basic networking tools (cable testers, crimping tools, OTDR).
  • Network monitoring software (Wireshark, PRTG, SolarWinds).
  • Routing and switching devices (Cisco, Juniper, Huawei).

Other Requirements

  • Willingness to work in shifts or on-call rotations as required by the business.
  • Ability to travel to different network sites for fieldwork to support network operations.
