Job Title: Junior - Telecom Infrastructure Specialist

Job Summary

The Junior Telecom Infrastructure Specialist is an entry-level role responsible for providing support in the deployment, maintenance, and troubleshooting of telecommunications infrastructure. This role assists in the installation, configuration, and optimization of telecom systems, including fiber optics, network equipment, and wireless communication systems. The ideal candidate will have a passion for technology and a desire to learn and grow within the telecommunications field.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the installation, configuration, and maintenance of telecom infrastructure, including fiber optic cables, copper wires, and wireless systems.
  • Conduct basic testing and troubleshooting on telecom equipment and systems, ensuring connectivity and performance standards are met.
  • Support senior technicians and engineers in diagnosing and resolving network issues.
  • Document and maintain records of all telecom infrastructure work, including installations, configurations, and maintenance activities.
  • Assist with the setup and configuration of routers, switches, and other network devices for telecom services.
  • Monitor network performance and assist in optimizing signal strength, latency, and throughput.
  • Help in ensuring compliance with safety standards during installation and maintenance activities.
  • Provide support for telecom infrastructure audits and inspections.

Skills and Knowledge Required

  • Basic understanding of telecom systems, including fiber optics, broadband networks, and wireless communication technologies.
  • Familiarity with network components such as routers, switches, modems, and signal repeaters.
  • Basic knowledge of IP networking concepts (e.g., TCP/IP, routing, and addressing).
  • Strong troubleshooting skills, with the ability to identify and resolve basic network issues.
  • Ability to follow technical manuals and documentation for equipment installation and configuration.
  • Strong communication skills for reporting issues and supporting senior engineers.
  • Ability to work well under supervision and follow instructions accurately.

Educational Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; a degree or certification in Telecommunications, Networking, or related field is preferred.
  • Entry-level certifications such as CompTIA Network+ or Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) are a plus.

Key Focus Areas

  • Gaining foundational knowledge in telecom infrastructure and network systems.
  • Assisting in the installation and maintenance of telecom equipment.
  • Supporting senior engineers and technicians in troubleshooting and network optimization.

Experience

  • 0-2 years of experience in telecommunications or network-related fields.

Tools and Equipment

  • Basic telecom test equipment (e.g., cable testers, signal analyzers).
  • Routers, switches, and network modems.
  • Hand tools for telecom installation (e.g., splicing tools, cable cutters).
  • Network diagnostic tools (e.g., ping, traceroute).

Other Requirements

  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings or weekends for installations or system maintenance.
  • Ability to lift and carry equipment as needed during installation.
