The Senior Technical Buyer leads the procurement of valves and mechanical equipment for complex industrial, oil & gas, and capital projects. This role involves full-cycle strategic sourcing, supplier negotiations, and technical-commercial coordination, with heavy reliance on SAP or ERP platforms for data accuracy, tracking, and compliance. The ideal candidate has deep knowledge of valve specs (API, ASME), supplier performance management, and cross-functional stakeholder engagement.
Lead RFQ development and execution for high-value mechanical packages including valves, actuators, and rotating/static equipment.
Analyze and compare bids for technical compliance, delivery risk, commercial viability, and lifecycle cost.
Negotiate long-term agreements (LTAs), contract terms, and cost optimization strategies with global and regional suppliers.
Develop sourcing plans aligned with engineering milestones and project schedules.
Review and interpret complex mechanical specifications, MTOs, valve datasheets, and vendor documentation.
Ensure procurement alignment with API 6D, ASME B16.5/B16.34, ISO 9001/29001, PED, and end-user specifications.
Interface with engineering, QA/QC, and inspection teams to resolve technical deviations and ensure supplier adherence to ITPs and FAT protocols.
Lead procurement activities using SAP MM or equivalent ERP tools: PR to PO conversion, order tracking, GR/IR, and change order management.
Maintain material master data, PO logs, and procurement dashboards for reporting and compliance.
Utilize ERP analytics to drive procurement cycle improvements and cost transparency.
Manage supplier performance KPIs (OTD, quality, NCR rate) and lead regular vendor reviews.
Identify and qualify strategic suppliers based on QCD (Quality, Cost, Delivery) metrics.
Represent procurement in cross-functional project teams and steering committees.
Mentor junior buyers and support continuous process improvement within the procurement team.
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Procurement, or Industrial Engineering (Required)
Master’s degree or professional certifications (CIPS, PMP, API Q1/Q2, Six Sigma) preferred
7+ years of experience in technical procurement of mechanical and valve systems
Proven SAP/ERP experience in large-scale industrial or EPC environments
In-depth knowledge of valve technologies, procurement specifications, and global standards
Advanced negotiation, contracting, and risk mitigation skills
Strong command of SAP MM module and procurement analytics tools
Excellent cross-functional leadership, communication, and vendor development capability
Fluent in documentation control, supplier audits, and inspection coordination
