Job Title: Mid-Level - System Administrator
Job Summary
A Mid-Level System Administrator is responsible for managing the organization's servers, network devices, and overall IT infrastructure. This role ensures system availability, performance, and security while operating with a higher level of independence and decision-making compared to junior administrators. The System Administrator will also assist in system upgrades and implement improvements to enhance the organization's IT capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Installing, configuring, and managing servers, network devices, and systems to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
- Overseeing network security, including firewall configuration and VPN setup, to protect the organization’s data and infrastructure.
- Monitoring and optimizing system performance through regular assessments and adjustments to improve efficiency.
- Managing virtualized environments using technologies such as VMware and Hyper-V to support organizational needs.
- Implementing and managing system backups, disaster recovery plans, and business continuity strategies to safeguard critical data.
- Assisting with system migrations and upgrades to ensure seamless transitions and minimal downtime.
- Performing regular security audits and applying necessary patches to maintain system integrity and security.
- Documenting configurations, processes, and troubleshooting steps to create a comprehensive knowledge base for the IT team.
- Supporting and mentoring junior administrators to enhance their skills and knowledge in system administration.
- Resolving complex technical issues escalated from junior staff, ensuring timely and effective solutions.
Skills and Knowledge Required
- Proficiency in operating systems such as Windows Server, Linux, and Unix.
- Deep understanding of networking concepts including TCP/IP, subnetting, DNS, and DHCP.
- Experience with virtualization technologies like VMware and Hyper-V.
- Strong knowledge of security practices and tools, including firewalls, VPNs, and anti-malware software.
- Familiarity with monitoring tools such as Nagios, Zabbix, and SolarWinds.
- Ability to write and debug scripts in languages like PowerShell and Bash.
- Experience in disaster recovery planning and execution to ensure business continuity.
- Knowledge of database management systems such as SQL Server and MySQL.
Educational Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Preferred certifications: CompTIA Network+, Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA), Linux Professional Institute Certification (LPIC), Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA).
