Supplier Quality Engineer – Turbomachinery QA (API 611/612/ISO)

Roles & Responsibilities

The Mid-Level Supplier Quality Engineer is responsible for overseeing quality assurance processes for suppliers delivering turbomachinery and critical rotating equipment components. This role ensures supplier deliverables comply with international standards (API 611, API 612, ISO 9001) and project specifications by managing inspections, audits, and nonconformance resolution across the supplier base. The engineer acts as the technical liaison between suppliers, engineering, and project quality.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Supplier Quality Oversight

  • Review and approve supplier Quality Plans (ITPs/QCPs), WPS/PQRs, NDT procedures, and inspection documentation.

  • Conduct in-process inspections and witness tests such as hydrostatic, mechanical run, vibration, and final assembly for steam/gas turbines and auxiliaries.

2. Standards & Compliance (API/ISO)

  • Ensure supplier quality systems and manufacturing processes conform to API 611/612, ISO 9001, ASME, and customer specifications.

  • Interpret technical drawings, welding standards, material traceability, and inspection records to confirm full compliance.

3. Non-Conformance Management

  • Lead root cause analysis (RCA) and resolution of supplier non-conformances; issue and track Corrective Action Requests (CARs).

  • Monitor trends and implement preventive actions to mitigate recurring quality issues.

4. Documentation & Reporting

  • Review and verify Manufacturing Record Books (MRBs), including MTRs, calibration certificates, weld maps, and performance test data.

  • Compile detailed inspection reports, NCR logs, punch lists, and compliance checklists for internal and client submission.

5. Supplier Development & Audit Support

  • Participate in supplier audits (onsite or remote), assess their QA capabilities, and support qualification or requalification processes.

  • Work with suppliers on continuous improvement initiatives related to quality, delivery performance, and documentation accuracy.

6. Project Coordination

  • Coordinate closely with project engineering, logistics, and site QA/QC teams to align quality milestones with production and shipping schedules.

  • Support Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs), pre-shipment inspections (PSIs), and technical kick-off meetings.

Key Focus Areas:

  • Quality management for gas and steam turbine components, including rotors, casings, skids, and seals

  • Conformance to API 611/612, ISO 9001, and client-specific QA standards

  • Non-conformance resolution and supplier performance monitoring

  • Involvement in FATs, inspections, and MRB compilation

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Quality Engineering, or Industrial Engineering

  • Experience: 4–8 years in supplier quality engineering or QA/QC roles, with at least 2 years in turbomachinery or rotating equipment projects

  • Technical Knowledge:

    • Solid understanding of API 611/612, ISO 9001, ASME, AWS D1.1, NACE, and associated QA standards

    • Experience with rotating equipment inspection (machining, balancing, pressure testing, alignment)

    • Proficient in reading P&IDs, fabrication drawings, weld maps, and inspection reports
