- Prepare preliminary structural designs and assist in the development of detailed structural drawings and specifications.
-
Structural Analysis and Calculations:
- Support in performing structural analysis, ensuring that designs meet safety, functionality, and performance standards.
- Assist in the preparation of structural calculations to determine loads, stress, and material requirements for various structures.
- Learn to analyze factors like wind loads, seismic activity, and other environmental conditions that affect structural integrity.
-
Project Documentation:
- Assist in preparing technical reports, design documentation, and project proposals for review by senior engineers and clients.
- Help in the preparation of materials lists and cost estimates based on the design specifications.
- Maintain accurate records of design changes, project status, and test results.
-
On-Site Support and Inspections:
- Visit construction sites to assist senior engineers in conducting structural assessments and inspections.
- Learn to evaluate existing structures and assist in the assessment of their condition, identifying any potential safety concerns or issues.
- Support in monitoring construction progress and ensuring that work complies with design specifications and safety regulations.
-
Collaboration and Teamwork:
- Work closely with multidisciplinary teams, including architects, civil engineers, and contractors, to ensure the structural design is integrated seamlessly into the overall project.
- Participate in team meetings, providing feedback on design progress, challenges, and opportunities for improvement.
- Communicate effectively with team members to ensure that designs meet deadlines and project specifications.
-
Safety and Regulatory Compliance:
- Learn to ensure that all structural designs comply with local, national, and international safety codes, regulations, and standards (e.g., IBC, AISC, BS).
- Follow established safety procedures during design and site visits to ensure safe work environments.
- Assist in ensuring that all structural work is compliant with environmental and sustainability requirements.
-
Learning and Development:
- Continuously improve technical knowledge of structural engineering principles, materials, and construction techniques.
