Job Title: Sheet Metal Worker 

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Sheet Metal Worker – Mid-Level to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for independently performing a variety of sheet metal fabrication tasks, including cutting, bending, shaping, and assembling sheet metal parts and components for industrial, commercial, and residential applications. You will use your technical expertise and experience to ensure high-quality workmanship while maintaining safety standards and meeting project deadlines. As a mid-level sheet metal worker, you will also assist in training junior staff and support senior colleagues with complex tasks.


Key Responsibilities:

  1. Sheet Metal Fabrication and Assembly:

    • Independently measure, cut, bend, and shape sheet metal according to blueprints, specifications, and customer requirements.
    • Use various tools and equipment, including shears, brakes, presses, and welding machines, to fabricate components.
    • Assemble and fit metal parts together, ensuring precision and alignment of components.
    • Utilize specialized equipment such as CNC machines, laser cutters, or plasma cutters when necessary for precision work.
  2. Quality Control and Inspection:

    • Inspect and measure fabricated components to ensure they meet design specifications, tolerances, and quality standards.
    • Perform final checks on finished products to identify and address defects or flaws before delivery or installation.
    • Ensure all parts are assembled securely and safely, using appropriate fasteners or welding techniques.
  3. Welding and Joining:

    • Perform welding tasks, including MIG and TIG welding, as needed for sheet metal components.
    • Assist with the joining of metal parts using appropriate techniques such as welding, soldering, or riveting.
    • Ensure that welding and joining work meets industry standards and is structurally sound.
  4. Troubleshooting and Problem-Solving:

    • Troubleshoot issues with materials, machines, and finished components, and determine solutions to improve the quality and efficiency of work.
    • Provide input into potential improvements in design, manufacturing processes, and equipment to enhance productivity and reduce waste.
    • Work with senior team members to resolve any challenges encountered during fabrication or installation.
  5. Safety and Compliance:

    • Adhere to safety standards and regulations while working with sheet metal tools and machinery.
    • Ensure that all safety protocols are followed, including wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves, goggles, and hearing protection.
    • Assist in maintaining a clean and organized work environment, ensuring safe and efficient working conditions for all team members.
  6. Team Collaboration and Leadership:

    • Work closely with other fabricators, welders, and engineers to ensure all projects are completed accurately and on time.
    • Provide guidance and support to junior sheet metal workers, mentoring them in techniques and ensuring quality standards are met.
    • Assist with training new team members and developing their skills through hands-on experience and instruction.
  7. Documentation and Reporting:

    • Maintain accurate records of work performed, including measurements, materials used, and project timelines.
    • Report progress to senior management or project managers, outlining any potential delays or issues.
    • Assist in maintaining inventory records for materials and tools, ensuring that necessary supplies are available for ongoing projects.

  1. Sheet Metal Fabrication and Precision Work:

    • Independently fabricate and assemble sheet metal components, ensuring precision and high-quality standards.
  2. Quality Control and Problem-Solving:

    • Perform inspections and quality checks on components to ensure they meet specifications and resolve any fabrication issues.
  3. Safety and Compliance:

    • Maintain a high standard of safety, ensuring that all work is performed in compliance with safety regulations and company protocols.
  4. Mentoring and Team Support:

    • Provide leadership and mentorship to junior staff, helping them improve their skills and maintain work quality.
  5. Equipment Operation and Maintenance:

    • Operate and maintain sheet metal fabrication equipment, ensuring that machinery is properly set up and used efficiently.

Qualifications and Skills:

  1. Educational Requirements:

    • High school diploma or equivalent; a technical certificate or degree in Sheet Metal Technology, Welding, or a related field is preferred.
    • Relevant technical certifications or training in sheet metal work or welding are beneficial.
  2. Experience:

    • 3-5 years of hands-on experience in sheet metal fabrication, welding, and assembly.
    • Strong background in working with various sheet metal tools and machinery such as brakes, shears, CNC machines, and welding equipment.
    • Experience in troubleshooting and problem-solving for sheet metal projects.
  3. Skills:

    • In-depth knowledge of sheet metal fabrication techniques, welding, and assembly.
    • Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications.
    • Proficient in using measurement tools and performing quality checks on finished components.
    • Ability to work independently and take on leadership responsibilities when supervising junior workers.
    • Strong attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality work.
    • Good communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with a team.
  4. Certifications (Preferred):

    • Welding certification (e.g., MIG, TIG) or related certifications.
    • OSHA or other safety-related certifications.
    • Additional sheet metal or fabrication certifications.
