The Senior Sensor Wiring Technician leads and executes the advanced installation, routing, and termination of a wide range of sensors — including temperature (RTD, thermocouples), proximity (inductive/capacitive), and Hall Effect sensors — for industrial control systems. This role ensures the highest level of precision, safety, and quality, and provides guidance to junior team members on best practices and troubleshooting.
Expert Sensor Installation & Termination:
Independently install, route, and terminate sensors according to detailed drawings, datasheets, and project specifications.
Technical Supervision & Mentorship:
Lead by example and mentor junior and mid-level technicians in proper sensor handling, wiring methods, and safety procedures.
Advanced Troubleshooting:
Diagnose complex wiring faults, grounding issues, or signal integrity problems using advanced test equipment and field experience.
Drawing Review & Redlining:
Interpret and update P&IDs, wiring schematics, instrument loop diagrams, and termination sheets for accuracy and handover.
Quality Assurance:
Conduct self-inspections and participate in QA/QC reviews to ensure compliance with industry standards (IEC, NEC, ISA) and client specifications.
System Interface Support:
Collaborate with PLC/DCS teams during loop checks and commissioning to validate sensor signal integrity and control response.
Cable Management & Signal Protection:
Ensure proper cable routing, shielding, grounding, and protection for both analog and digital sensors to prevent noise or failures.
Reporting & Documentation:
Maintain detailed installation logs, support as-built documentation, and contribute to turnover package preparation.
Sensor System Integrity:
Ensure full functional readiness and clean signal transmission of all field sensors feeding into control and monitoring systems.
Code & Standard Compliance:
Apply in-depth knowledge of ISA, IEC, and NEC standards to deliver installation work that meets or exceeds audit requirements.
Leadership in Field Practices:
Set the standard for high-quality sensor installation, including correct orientation, cable dressing, environmental sealing, and proper use of accessories (glands, ferrules, tags).
Interface Readiness for Commissioning:
Ensure all sensors are loop-ready with correct polarity, termination, and configuration for seamless loop checking and functional testing.
Handover Preparation:
Minimize punch list items by delivering right-first-time wiring work and providing accurate redline drawings and documentation.
Diploma or Trade Certification in Electrical, Instrumentation, or Electronics.
5+ years of relevant experience in sensor wiring and industrial instrumentation.
Deep technical knowledge of temperature (RTD/thermocouple), proximity (inductive/capacitive), and Hall Effect sensors.
Skilled in reading and interpreting complex wiring diagrams and instrumentation drawings.
Proficient with multimeters, loop calibrators, signal simulators, and insulation testers.
Strong understanding of analog/digital signals, noise mitigation, and grounding best practices.
Effective leadership, mentoring, and team coordination abilities.
High level of discipline in safety practices, documentation, and quality control.
