Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

We are seeking a highly experienced and technically proficient Senior Turbine Engineer to lead the engineering support, maintenance strategy, troubleshooting, and performance optimization of gas and/or steam turbine systems. The ideal candidate will have deep knowledge of turbine operation, thermodynamic cycles, failure modes, and OEM maintenance protocols.

This role will be responsible for ensuring the mechanical integrity and reliability of rotating equipment while mentoring junior engineers and supporting strategic asset management decisions.

Key Responsibilities:

🛠️ Engineering Leadership & Oversight

  • Provide technical leadership in the design review, maintenance planning, and troubleshooting of turbine systems.

  • Serve as SME (Subject Matter Expert) for gas and/or steam turbines, rotors, blades, bearings, diaphragms, and casings.

  • Lead or participate in root cause analysis (RCA) for turbine trips, degradation, or failures.

🔍 Advanced Diagnostics & Performance Analysis

  • Analyze real-time and historical performance data to evaluate turbine health and identify degradation trends.

  • Interpret complex vibration, thermodynamic, and lube oil system data using tools such as Bently Nevada, ADRE, or AMS.

  • Recommend corrective and preventive actions based on advanced diagnostics and operational KPIs.

🔧 Maintenance Strategy & Overhaul Support

  • Develop long-term turbine maintenance strategies, including lifecycle planning and reliability improvement initiatives.

  • Lead turbine outages, including scope development, contractor supervision, technical direction, and quality assurance.

  • Evaluate and specify replacement components, retrofit opportunities, and OEM modifications.

📊 Design & Technical Analysis

  • Review and approve design modifications, upgrades, or reverse engineering proposals.

  • Conduct thermodynamic and mechanical modeling for turbine optimization and performance benchmarking.

  • Ensure compliance with ASME, API, and OEM specifications.

🧑‍🏫 Mentorship & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Mentor and train junior and mid-level engineers on turbine systems, analysis techniques, and best practices.

  • Collaborate with plant operations, controls, piping, reliability, and OEM teams to support continuous improvement.

  • Interface with third-party service providers, OEMs, and certification bodies as needed.

📁 Documentation & Reporting

  • Prepare detailed technical reports, outage documentation, engineering assessments, and RCA reports.

  • Maintain updated engineering documentation, drawings, P&IDs, and parts databases.

Qualifications:

🎓 Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field (required).

  • Master’s degree or professional engineering license (PE/CEng) is preferred.

🧰 Experience:

  • 7+ years of progressive experience in turbine engineering (preferably in power plants, refineries, or OEM environments).

  • Hands-on experience with OEMs such as GE, Siemens, Mitsubishi, Alstom, or Solar Turbines.

  • Experience managing major turbine outages and upgrades.

Technical Skills:

  • Proficient in turbine thermodynamics, rotor dynamics, and stress analysis.

  • Experienced with tools such as ANSYS, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and Vibration/Condition Monitoring software.

  • Familiar with ISO/API/ASME standards for rotating equipment and turbine systems.

  • Strong analytical and RCA methodology (e.g., 5 Whys, FMEA, Fishbone diagrams).

Soft Skills:

  • Strong leadership, organizational, and mentorship capabilities

  • Excellent communication, reporting, and stakeholder management skills

  • Proactive mindset focused on safety, efficiency, and long-term asset performance
