The Senior Mechanical Engineer – HVAC Design leads complex HVAC system design projects, delivering innovative, energy-efficient, and code-compliant mechanical solutions for commercial, industrial, or institutional buildings. This role provides technical leadership, mentors junior engineers, and collaborates with multidisciplinary teams and clients to ensure HVAC designs meet performance, sustainability, and budget goals. The senior engineer plays a pivotal role in project strategy, risk management, and quality assurance.
Lead the conceptualization, detailed design, and specification of HVAC systems including air handling, chilled/hot water systems, ventilation, and controls integration.
Develop advanced load calculations, energy modeling, and thermal comfort analyses to optimize HVAC performance.
Innovate solutions for complex projects including retrofit, sustainable design, and code compliance challenges.
Manage multiple HVAC design projects from feasibility through construction documentation and commissioning support.
Coordinate cross-disciplinary engineering teams, consultants, contractors, and clients for seamless project delivery.
Mentor and coach junior and mid-level engineers on design practices, calculations, and technical problem solving.
Ensure all designs comply with relevant codes and standards (ASHRAE, IMC, NFPA, LEED, WELL, local regulations).
Lead design reviews, risk assessments, and value engineering workshops.
Implement QA/QC procedures and monitor deliverables for accuracy and completeness.
Drive adoption of new technologies, software tools, and sustainable design practices in HVAC engineering.
Lead internal initiatives to improve design standards, BIM workflows, and documentation efficiency.
Represent the company in industry forums, client presentations, and technical conferences.

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field (required)
Master’s degree or MBA in Engineering Management (preferred)
Professional Engineer (PE) license strongly preferred
7+ years of progressive HVAC design experience, including leadership roles
Proven track record managing large, complex commercial or industrial projects
Experience with sustainability certifications (LEED, WELL) and energy modeling
Expert in AutoCAD, Revit, HVAC load calculation software (Carrier HAP, Trane TRACE, eQuest)
Experience with BIM coordination tools (Navisworks, Bluebeam) and energy simulation platforms
Familiarity with CFD, digital twins, or smart building controls is a plus
Deep expertise in HVAC system design, psychrometrics, fluid dynamics, and controls integration
