Job Summary:
The Mid-Level Safety Systems Engineer is responsible for independently managing the maintenance, optimization, and troubleshooting of safety-critical systems in oil and gas operations. This role involves leading safety system projects, analyzing performance data, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations. The engineer collaborates with cross-functional teams to enhance the reliability and efficiency of safety systems while mentoring junior staff and contributing to operational improvements.
Key Responsibilities:
System Maintenance and Optimization:
- Perform advanced maintenance and calibration of safety systems, including fire and gas detection systems, emergency shutdown mechanisms, and pressure relief devices.
- Develop and execute preventive maintenance schedules to minimize downtime and ensure reliability.
- Analyze system performance data to identify inefficiencies and recommend improvements.
Troubleshooting and Diagnostics:
- Diagnose and resolve complex issues in safety systems using advanced diagnostic tools and techniques.
- Conduct root cause analyses for recurring issues and implement corrective action plans.
- Collaborate with vendors and senior engineers to address critical technical challenges.
System Integration and Upgrades:
- Lead the integration and commissioning of new safety systems, ensuring seamless compatibility with existing operations.
- Validate and test upgraded systems to meet safety and regulatory standards.
- Plan and execute retrofitting projects to improve safety system performance and compliance.
Safety and Compliance:
- Ensure all safety systems adhere to industry standards, regulatory requirements, and company protocols.

Project Management:
- Manage medium-scale projects, including the installation and upgrade of safety systems.

Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities, calibration logs, and system performance metrics.

Collaboration and Mentorship:
- Work closely with operations, maintenance, and safety teams to address safety system challenges.

Educational Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Safety Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Certifications in advanced safety systems or project management (e.g., NEBOSH, OSHA 30-Hour, PMP) are highly desirable.
Experience:
- 3-5 years of experience in safety systems engineering, including maintenance, troubleshooting, and optimization.
- Demonstrated ability to independently manage technical tasks and contribute to system improvements.
Tools and Technologies:
- Expertise in diagnostic tools such as gas detectors, pressure calibrators, and multimeters.
- Proficiency in SCADA platforms and safety instrumentation software.
