Job Title: Safety Systems Engineer (Oil and Gas)

Job Summary:

The Safety Systems Manager oversees the design, maintenance, and optimization of safety-critical systems in oil and gas operations. This role involves managing a multidisciplinary team, ensuring compliance with regulatory and organizational safety standards, and driving strategic initiatives to enhance operational safety. The Manager is responsible for aligning safety systems performance with business objectives, managing large-scale projects, and fostering a strong safety culture.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership and Team Management:

  • Lead and manage a team of engineers and technicians, ensuring high performance and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Define roles, allocate resources, and set team objectives to align with organizational safety goals.
  • Develop and implement training programs to enhance team expertise in safety-critical systems.

System Oversight and Optimization:

  • Oversee the operation, maintenance, and optimization of safety systems, including fire and gas detection, emergency shutdown devices, and pressure relief mechanisms.
  • Develop strategies to ensure system reliability and reduce downtime through predictive maintenance and advanced analytics.
  • Drive the adoption of new technologies and best practices to enhance safety system performance.

Safety and Compliance:

  • Ensure all safety systems comply with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and company policies.
  • Conduct and oversee risk assessments, audits, and safety drills to identify and mitigate hazards.
  • Collaborate with regulatory bodies and ensure timely reporting of compliance metrics.

Project Management:

  • Plan, execute, and manage large-scale safety projects, including installations, retrofits, and system upgrades.
  • Develop project timelines, budgets, and resource plans to ensure successful completion.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to align safety projects with organizational priorities.

Stakeholder Engagement and Reporting:

  • Act as the primary point of contact for clients, vendors, and regulatory authorities regarding safety systems.
  • Prepare and present detailed reports on system performance, safety compliance, and project outcomes to senior leadership.
  • Communicate safety system strategies and progress to stakeholders effectively.

Innovation and Continuous Improvement:

  • Lead initiatives to improve safety processes and systems through innovation and the integration of advanced technologies.
  • Stay updated on advancements in safety systems and recommend strategic upgrades.
  • Drive the development of standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure consistency and efficiency in safety practices.

Skills and Knowledge Required:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of safety-critical systems, including gas detection, emergency shutdown devices, and alarms.
  • Expertise in SCADA/DCS platforms and industrial communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, HART, Profibus).
  • Strong understanding of safety regulations, risk management practices, and environmental compliance in oil and gas.
  • Advanced project management skills, including budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation.
  • Exceptional leadership, organizational, and communication skills for managing teams and collaborating with stakeholders.

Educational Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Safety Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Advanced certifications in safety systems or project management (e.g., NEBOSH, PMP, ISA SIS) are highly desirable.

Experience:

  • 10+ years of experience in safety systems engineering, with significant experience in leadership roles.
  • Proven track record of managing complex safety projects and driving organizational safety initiatives.

Tools and Technologies:

  • Proficiency in SCADA platforms and advanced diagnostic tools, including gas analyzers and predictive maintenance technologies.
  • Familiarity with machine learning and analytics tools for monitoring and improving safety systems.
  • Advanced knowledge of software tools for project management and compliance tracking.

Other Requirements:

  • Strong decision-making abilities and the capacity to handle high-pressure situations effectively.
  • Ability to manage multiple high-priority projects and tasks simultaneously.
  • Willingness to travel to field locations for system inspections, audits, and project oversight.
