Job Title: Safety Systems Engineer (Oil and Gas)
Job Summary:
The Junior Safety Systems Engineer is responsible for supporting the maintenance, optimization, and troubleshooting of safety-critical systems in oil and gas operations. This role involves monitoring safety systems such as emergency shutdown systems, fire and gas detection equipment, and pressure relief mechanisms. The engineer works collaboratively with senior engineers and operations teams to ensure compliance with safety regulations and improve system reliability.
Key Responsibilities:
System Maintenance and Calibration:
- Perform routine maintenance and calibration of safety-critical systems, including fire and gas detection systems, emergency shutdown systems, and pressure relief devices.
- Ensure proper functionality and reliability of alarms, sensors, and control mechanisms.
- Identify and resolve minor issues in safety systems and escalate complex problems to senior engineers.
Monitoring and Troubleshooting:
- Monitor safety systems using SCADA/DCS platforms and identify potential issues affecting performance.
- Support troubleshooting activities by diagnosing faults and implementing corrective actions under minimal supervision.
- Document findings and provide input for improving system reliability and performance.
Safety and Compliance:
- Participate in safety audits, risk assessments, and inspections to ensure compliance with industry standards and organizational protocols.
- Support the implementation of safety protocols and contribute to maintaining a safe working environment.
- Assist in validating safety systems to meet operational and regulatory requirements.
Data Analysis and Reporting:
- Analyze safety system performance data and contribute to identifying trends and improvement opportunities.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, system calibrations, and incidents.
- Prepare basic technical reports for review by senior engineers and management.
Collaboration and Support:
- Work closely with cross-functional teams, including operations, maintenance, and safety officers, to address safety system challenges.
- Assist in commissioning and testing new safety systems during project implementations.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to fresher engineers on standard maintenance tasks.

- Knowledge of safety regulations and industry standards (e.g., API, OSHA, ISO 45001).
- Analytical skills for troubleshooting and improving safety system performance.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills for working in team environments.
Educational Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Safety Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Certifications in safety systems or management (e.g., NEBOSH, OSHA 30-Hour) are preferred but not mandatory.
Experience:
- 1-2 years of experience in maintaining and troubleshooting safety systems, preferably in the oil and gas industry.
Tools and Technologies:
- Proficiency in diagnostic tools such as gas analyzers, pressure calibrators, and multimeters.
- Familiarity with SCADA/DCS platforms and safety instrumentation software.
- Basic knowledge of predictive maintenance tools and techniques is advantageous.
