Job Title: Senior SQL Developer
Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Senior SQL Developer to design, develop, and optimize high-performance database solutions for large-scale applications. The ideal candidate should have deep expertise in SQL programming, database architecture, query optimization, and performance tuning. This role involves leading database projects, mentoring junior developers, ensuring database security, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to support enterprise-level applications.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and optimize complex SQL queries, stored procedures, views, and triggers
- Architect and maintain scalable, high-availability database solutions
- Optimize query execution plans, indexing strategies, and partitioning techniques to improve database performance
- Troubleshoot and resolve database performance issues, deadlocks, bottlenecks, and high-transaction loads
- Implement database security best practices, including encryption, role-based access control, auditing, and compliance with data regulations (GDPR, HIPAA, PCI-DSS)
- Develop and manage ETL pipelines, data transformation, and migration strategies
- Design and implement disaster recovery plans, backup policies, and replication mechanisms
- Work with cloud-based database solutions (AWS RDS, Azure SQL, Google Cloud SQL, Snowflake, BigQuery)
- Collaborate with software engineers, DevOps teams, and data analysts to optimize data workflows
- Lead database architecture discussions, design reviews, and code optimization efforts
- Mentor and train junior and mid-level SQL developers, ensuring adherence to best practices
- Stay updated with emerging database technologies, trends, and industry best practices
Skills and Knowledge Required:
- Expert proficiency in SQL, PL/SQL, and T-SQL
- Extensive experience with relational databases: MySQL, PostgreSQL, Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle
- Strong knowledge of query optimization techniques, execution plans, indexing strategies, and performance tuning
- Experience with database security, access controls, encryption, and regulatory compliance
- Proficiency in ETL, data warehousing, and real-time data processing
- Hands-on experience with cloud databases (AWS RDS, Aurora, Google Cloud SQL, Azure SQL, Snowflake, BigQuery)
- Familiarity with big data technologies (Hadoop, Spark, Kafka) for large-scale data processing
- Experience with automation and DevOps integration, including CI/CD pipelines for database deployments
- Proficiency in scripting for database automation (Python, Bash, PowerShell)
- Strong understanding of NoSQL databases (MongoDB, Redis, DynamoDB) (optional)
Educational Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, or a related field
- Certifications in SQL Server, Oracle DBA, AWS/Azure Cloud Databases, or Big Data Technologies are a plus
Experience:
- 5-8+ years of hands-on experience in SQL development, database design, and performance tuning
- Experience in leading database projects, handling high-volume transactions, and architecting large-scale systems
