Job Title: SCADA Systems Engineer (Water Treatment)

Job Summary:

The SCADA Systems Engineer (Water Treatment) is responsible for supporting the installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems within the water treatment sector. This entry-level role provides an opportunity to learn about water treatment processes, automation, and SCADA systems while assisting senior engineers in ensuring the seamless operation of control systems used for monitoring and controlling water treatment facilities. The SCADA Systems Engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams to support system optimization, performance monitoring, and troubleshooting to ensure that water treatment processes run smoothly and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. SCADA System Setup and Configuration:

    • Assist in the installation, configuration, and commissioning of SCADA systems used in water treatment plants, including sensors, data loggers, controllers, and communication equipment.
    • Help in setting up SCADA servers, workstations, and user interfaces to monitor and control water treatment operations.
    • Support senior engineers in configuring alarms, trends, and data visualization tools to ensure efficient monitoring of water treatment processes.
  2. System Monitoring and Data Collection:

    • Monitor the performance of SCADA systems, ensuring that real-time data is being accurately collected and displayed for operational monitoring.
    • Assist in collecting operational data from SCADA systems, including pressure, flow, temperature, and water quality parameters.
    • Support the generation of daily, weekly, and monthly reports based on SCADA data to track system performance and water treatment quality.
  3. Troubleshooting and Technical Support:

    • Provide basic technical support for SCADA systems, troubleshooting issues related to system communication, data acquisition, and alarm reporting.
    • Assist senior engineers in diagnosing and resolving SCADA system faults, ensuring minimal downtime in water treatment operations.
    • Help in performing routine maintenance and system updates to ensure optimal SCADA performance.
  4. System Integration and Testing:

    • Assist in integrating SCADA systems with other control systems used in water treatment processes, such as PLCs, RTUs (Remote Terminal Units), and distributed control systems.
    • Support testing efforts to verify that SCADA systems are communicating correctly with field devices and equipment.
    • Participate in the validation of SCADA systems, ensuring they meet project specifications and regulatory requirements.
  5. Collaboration with Cross-Functional Teams:

    • Work with water treatment operators, engineers, and maintenance teams to ensure that SCADA systems are functioning properly and supporting operational goals.
    • Provide basic support to operators and maintenance personnel on the use and troubleshooting of SCADA systems.
    • Assist in ensuring that SCADA systems provide accurate and timely information for decision-making in water treatment processes.
  6. Learning and Development:

    • Develop technical expertise in SCADA systems, water treatment processes, and industrial control systems through hands-on experience and training.
    • Participate in training programs, workshops, and on-the-job learning opportunities to enhance knowledge of SCADA, PLCs, and water treatment systems.
    • Stay updated on emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in SCADA systems and water treatment automation.

Key Focus Areas:

  • SCADA System Support: Assist in the configuration, monitoring, and troubleshooting of SCADA systems used in water treatment facilities.
  • Data Collection and Reporting: Help collect and analyze SCADA data for monitoring system performance and generating reports.
  • System Integration and Testing: Support the integration and testing of SCADA systems with other control devices in water treatment processes.
  • Learning and Development: Build hands-on experience with SCADA systems, PLCs, and water treatment technologies.

Skills and Knowledge Required:

  • Basic understanding of SCADA systems, industrial control systems, and water treatment processes.
  • Familiarity with PLCs, sensors, actuators, and other equipment used in water treatment facilities.
  • Strong interest in learning about automation, control systems, and water treatment technologies.
  • Basic knowledge of data acquisition and control systems, with the ability to monitor system performance and generate reports.
  • Good problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot basic SCADA system issues.
  • Effective communication skills to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and support operational staff.

Educational Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Engineering, Automation Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related technical field.
  • Basic coursework or certifications in SCADA systems, PLC programming, or industrial control systems is a plus.

Experience:

  • No prior full-time experience required; internships, academic projects, or hands-on training in SCADA, automation, or water treatment systems are beneficial.
  • Exposure to SCADA systems, PLC programming, or industrial automation through academic coursework or projects is advantageous.

Tools and Technologies:

  • Exposure to SCADA software platforms (e.g., Wonderware, Siemens WinCC, Ignition) is beneficial.
  • Familiarity with PLC programming languages (e.g., Ladder Logic, Structured Text) and control systems used in water treatment.
  • Basic understanding of diagnostic tools for troubleshooting SCADA systems and related hardware.

  • Strong eagerness to learn and grow in the field of SCADA systems and water treatment automation.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work under the guidance of senior engineers.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high-quality standards in all activities.
