Job Title: SCADA Engineer (Power Plant)

Job Summary:

The SCADA Engineer Manager is responsible for overseeing the planning, execution, and optimization of SCADA systems in power generation facilities. This role involves managing teams of engineers and technicians, leading large-scale projects, ensuring compliance with regulatory and safety standards, and aligning SCADA operations with organizational objectives. The Manager plays a critical role in driving innovation, system reliability, and operational efficiency while acting as the primary point of contact for stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership and Team Management:

  • Lead and manage a team of engineers and technicians responsible for SCADA system operations.
  • Define team objectives, allocate resources, and ensure alignment with organizational goals.
  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to team members, fostering professional development and collaboration.

System Oversight and Optimization:

  • Oversee the operation, maintenance, and optimization of SCADA systems for power plant processes, including turbines, generators, and boilers.
  • Ensure seamless integration and functionality of SCADA with Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), and Human-Machine Interfaces (HMIs).
  • Drive initiatives to upgrade legacy SCADA systems and integrate advanced technologies for improved performance.

Project Management:

  • Manage large-scale SCADA projects, including system installations, commissioning, upgrades, and retrofits.
  • Develop project schedules, budgets, and resource allocation plans to ensure timely delivery.
  • Identify risks and implement mitigation strategies to address project challenges effectively.

Compliance and Safety:

  • Ensure SCADA operations comply with industry standards (e.g., IEC, ISA) and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct safety audits, risk assessments, and system validations for safety-critical SCADA components.
  • Oversee the maintenance and validation of emergency shutdown systems connected to SCADA platforms.

Stakeholder Engagement and Reporting:

  • Act as the primary point of contact for clients, contractors, and regulatory authorities regarding SCADA-related activities.
  • Prepare and present detailed reports on system performance, project progress, and compliance metrics to senior leadership.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure SCADA operations align with organizational and client requirements.

Innovation and Continuous Improvement:

  • Evaluate and adopt emerging technologies to enhance SCADA system functionality and reliability.
  • Drive the implementation of predictive maintenance tools, advanced analytics, and system optimization strategies.
  • Stay updated on industry advancements and recommend innovative solutions for continuous improvement.

Key Focus Areas:

  • SCADA Systems: Oversee the operation, optimization, and integration of SCADA platforms.
  • Power Plant Processes: Manage SCADA-related tasks for turbines, generators, boilers, and auxiliary systems.
  • System Integration: Ensure seamless integration of SCADA with DCS, PLCs, and HMIs for efficient operations.
  • Safety and Emergency Systems: Validate and maintain the compliance and reliability of SCADA-connected safety-critical systems.

Skills and Knowledge Required:

  • Extensive knowledge of SCADA systems and their integration with power plant operations.
  • Expertise in programming SCADA platforms, including graphical interface design and alarm configuration.
  • Advanced understanding of industrial communication protocols such as Modbus, Profibus, and Ethernet/IP.
  • Strong project management skills, including budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation.
  • Comprehensive understanding of safety regulations, risk management, and emergency protocols in industrial environments.

Educational Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Advanced certifications in SCADA, DCS, or project management (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2) are highly desirable.

Experience:

  • 10+ years of experience in SCADA system operations, with at least 3-5 years in a managerial role.
  • Proven track record in leading large teams and managing complex SCADA projects in power generation facilities.

Tools and Technologies:

  • Expertise in advanced diagnostic tools such as oscilloscopes, thermal cameras, and network analyzers.
  • Proficiency in SCADA platforms like Siemens WinCC, Wonderware InTouch, Honeywell Experion, or ABB DCS.
  • Familiarity with data analytics tools for monitoring and optimizing system performance.
