Job Title: SCADA Engineer (Power Plant)

Job Summary:

The Fresher SCADA Engineer is responsible for assisting in the design, implementation, testing, and maintenance of SCADA systems in power plants. This role focuses on gaining foundational knowledge of Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems, Distributed Control Systems (DCS), and automation processes while supporting senior engineers in ensuring operational efficiency and compliance with safety standards.

Key Responsibilities:

System Implementation and Testing:

  • Assist in configuring and testing SCADA systems, including hardware and software components.
  • Support the integration of SCADA with Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs).
  • Participate in commissioning activities, ensuring SCADA system functionality aligns with plant requirements.

System Monitoring and Maintenance:

  • Monitor SCADA systems to ensure smooth operation and accurate data collection from power plant equipment such as turbines, generators, and boilers.
  • Perform routine inspections and basic troubleshooting of SCADA components to maintain reliability.
  • Document system performance issues and escalate unresolved problems to senior engineers.

Safety and Compliance:

  • Adhere to safety protocols and industry regulations during all SCADA-related activities.
  • Assist in validating and maintaining the functionality of safety-critical systems connected to SCADA.
  • Participate in safety training and drills to gain foundational knowledge of emergency procedures.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain detailed records of SCADA configurations, testing activities, and system performance.
  • Assist in preparing technical reports on system operations and findings during commissioning.
  • Ensure documentation complies with organizational and regulatory standards.

Learning and Development:

  • Attend training programs to develop expertise in SCADA systems and power plant operations.
  • Gain familiarity with industrial communication protocols such as Modbus, Profibus, and Ethernet/IP.
  • Build a foundational understanding of industry standards, including IEC, ISA, and relevant regulatory frameworks.

Key Focus Areas:

  • SCADA Systems: Assist in programming, configuring, and testing SCADA platforms.
  • Power Plant Operations: Support SCADA tasks related to monitoring turbines, generators, and boilers.
  • System Integration: Learn and contribute to the integration of SCADA with other control systems like PLCs and DCS.
  • Safety and Emergency Systems: Participate in testing and maintaining SCADA-connected safety systems.

Skills and Knowledge Required:

  • Basic understanding of SCADA systems and their application in power plant operations.
  • Familiarity with basic programming and configuration of SCADA and related automation systems is advantageous.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills to assist in troubleshooting SCADA issues.
  • Awareness of safety regulations and best practices in industrial environments.
  • Proficiency in basic software tools, such as Microsoft Office, for reporting and documentation.

Educational Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Basic training or certification in SCADA systems (e.g., Siemens, ABB, Honeywell) is an advantage.

Experience:

  • No prior experience required; internships or academic projects related to SCADA or automation systems are beneficial.

Tools and Technologies:

  • Familiarity with basic diagnostic tools such as multimeters and loop calibrators.
  • Exposure to SCADA software platforms like Siemens WinCC, Wonderware InTouch, or Honeywell Experion is a plus.
