The Junior Reliability Engineer supports the development, monitoring, and improvement of reliability for marine mechanical systems and components such as propulsion units, pumps, valves, HVAC, gearboxes, and auxiliary machinery. Working under the guidance of senior reliability and maintenance engineers, this role involves data collection, analysis of equipment performance, and participation in failure investigations and maintenance optimization activities. The engineer helps ensure that marine assets meet operational, safety, and lifecycle goals across commercial, offshore, or naval platforms.
Assist in collecting and analyzing reliability and maintenance data for mechanical systems onboard vessels or at shore facilities
Support root cause analysis (RCA) and failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA) for critical equipment
Contribute to reliability modeling and prediction using industry standards and field performance data
Participate in the development and optimization of preventive and predictive maintenance strategies
Support the tracking of key reliability metrics such as MTBF, MTTR, and availability
Help prepare reliability documentation, technical reports, and dashboards for internal and external stakeholders
Collaborate with maintenance, design, and operations teams to implement equipment improvements
Assist in developing standard operating procedures (SOPs) and reliability testing protocols
Learn and apply marine reliability and classification society standards (e.g., ABS, DNV, IMO, ISO 20815)
Reliability data collection and analysis of marine mechanical systems
Equipment performance tracking and reliability modeling
Support for failure investigations and reliability improvement initiatives
Exposure to marine regulations, lifecycle engineering, and reliability-centered maintenance (RCM)
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering, Reliability Engineering, or related field (required)
Experience:
0–2 years of experience in reliability engineering, mechanical maintenance, or marine systems (internships and co-ops considered)
Exposure to shipboard mechanical systems or marine maintenance practices is a plus
Technical Skills:
Familiarity with reliability concepts such as FMEA, FTA, and RCA
Basic understanding of marine mechanical equipment operation and failure mechanisms
