The Junior Refrigeration Mechanic supports the installation, routine maintenance, and troubleshooting of refrigeration systems in commercial, cold storage, or industrial settings. This position emphasizes learning under supervision, safe refrigerant handling, and basic service duties in compliance with environmental and safety standards.
Assist in preventive maintenance of commercial refrigeration systems such as:
Walk-in coolers & freezers
Reach-in refrigerators
Ice machines, under-counter units, display cases
Clean condenser and evaporator coils, inspect fans and motors, and replace filters
Support EPA-certified technicians in recovering, charging, and evacuating refrigerant
Prepare and label refrigerant cylinders and log usage
Learn proper leak testing and pressure readings using gauges
Help identify system issues such as abnormal noises, poor cooling, icing, or leaks
Assist in replacing basic components like fan motors, thermostats, sensors, or relays
Handle tools and parts under the guidance of a senior technician
Assist with the physical installation of refrigeration units, piping, and insulation
Prepare mounting areas, route copper lines, and support pipe brazing/prep
Lay out tools, materials, and wiring as per layout drawings
Follow site safety rules, wear proper PPE, and attend toolbox talks
Participate in lockout/tagout, confined space, and ladder safety protocols
Keep job site clean, organized, and free from hazards
Maintain service checklists, log basic readings (pressure, temperature, amperage)
Record part usage and complete daily work sheets
Report anomalies or urgent faults to the lead mechanic or supervisor immediately

Basic knowledge of refrigerant types, pressures, and thermodynamics is a plus
