Receiving Inspector – Turbine Rotors, Blades, and Bearing Housings

Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

The Mid-Level Receiving Inspector is responsible for performing and documenting in-depth inspections of critical turbine components—such as rotors, blades, and bearing housings—upon receipt. The role ensures conformity to specifications, verifies compliance documentation, and supports timely quality clearance of parts for production or storage. This role requires working knowledge of rotating equipment components, inspection techniques, and industry standards such as API, ASME, and ISO.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Advanced Visual and Dimensional Inspection

  • Conduct thorough visual inspections of turbine parts for damage, corrosion, coating issues, or improper handling during shipment.

  • Perform dimensional verification using calibrated instruments (e.g., micrometers, bore gauges, height gauges) as per part drawings or QC plans.

2. Verification of Traceability and Documentation

  • Cross-check incoming parts against purchase orders, drawings, and specifications.

  • Review and validate manufacturer documentation including Material Test Certificates (MTCs), Certificates of Compliance (CoC), and inspection reports.

3. Reporting and Recordkeeping

  • Accurately complete inspection reports and maintain traceability logs in ERP/QC systems.

  • Generate non-conformance reports (NCRs) for damaged or out-of-spec materials and coordinate with suppliers and QA leads for resolution.

4. Preservation and Packaging Checks

  • Inspect preservation measures such as VCI wrapping, oil coatings, desiccant placement, and sealed crates for compliance with standards (ASTM, MIL-STD).

  • Ensure correct labeling, orientation markings, and handling instructions are intact and readable.

5. Coordination and Compliance

  • Coordinate with warehouse, logistics, and project teams to prioritize inspection of critical path components.

  • Apply standards such as API 611/612, ASME Section V/IX, ISO 9001, and company-specific specifications during all inspection activities.

Key Focus Areas:

  • Visual and dimensional inspection of critical turbine components on receipt

  • Verification of compliance documentation (MTCs, CoCs, drawings)

  • Non-conformance identification and reporting (NCR generation and escalation)

  • Preservation and packaging validation for long-term storage or installation readiness

  • Application of QA/QC standards for rotating equipment (API, ASME, ISO)

Qualifications:

  • Education: Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, QA/QC, or Industrial Technology

  • Experience: 3–6 years in receiving inspection, quality control, or rotating equipment QA

  • Skills:

    • Proficient in mechanical inspection techniques and interpreting technical drawings

    • Experience with ERP systems and digital inspection tools

    • Strong understanding of rotating equipment components and materials (e.g., forged rotors, cast housings)

    • Clear written communication for inspection reports and nonconformance documentation
