Job Title: Quality Control Technician (Mechanical Systems)

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Senior Quality Control Technician specializing in Mechanical Systems to join our quality control team. As a senior technician, you will be responsible for overseeing the inspection, testing, and monitoring of mechanical components, systems, and machinery, ensuring they meet strict quality and performance standards. You will lead troubleshooting efforts for mechanical quality issues, drive process improvements, and mentor junior team members. This position requires advanced technical knowledge, leadership abilities, and a proactive approach to managing the quality control of mechanical systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Leadership and Mentorship:

    • Lead and supervise the quality control team, providing guidance and support to junior technicians and helping them develop their skills.
    • Coordinate daily quality control activities, ensuring efficient execution of inspections, testing, and reporting.
    • Provide technical expertise in quality-related issues and assist the team in troubleshooting complex mechanical system problems.
    • Conduct performance reviews, set goals, and offer constructive feedback to help team members improve their technical knowledge and performance.
  2. Inspection and Testing:

    • Conduct detailed inspections and advanced testing of mechanical systems, components, and machinery to ensure compliance with specifications, design standards, and industry regulations.
    • Utilize precision measurement tools, non-destructive testing (NDT) methods, and advanced diagnostic equipment to detect defects, irregularities, or deviations from specifications.
    • Lead the creation and implementation of quality control procedures for mechanical systems, ensuring all systems are thoroughly tested before being released.
  3. Troubleshooting and Issue Resolution:

    • Lead troubleshooting efforts for complex mechanical quality issues, diagnosing root causes and determining corrective actions.
    • Work closely with engineering and production teams to resolve quality problems, improve system performance, and implement process changes.
    • Analyze failure trends and work with cross-functional teams to develop solutions that prevent recurring issues.
  4. Quality Process Improvement:

    • Identify and implement opportunities for process improvement within the quality control process, helping reduce defects, downtime, and production costs.
    • Proactively suggest and drive improvements in testing procedures, inspection methods, and quality control tools to increase efficiency and accuracy.
    • Participate in quality improvement projects and initiatives, using Lean, Six Sigma, or other methodologies to enhance quality control operations.
  5. Compliance and Documentation:

    • Ensure that all quality control activities comply with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and company policies.
    • Oversee the documentation of inspections, tests, and corrective actions, ensuring all records are accurate, complete, and compliant with auditing requirements.
    • Prepare and present detailed reports on quality control performance, inspection results, and quality issues to senior management.
  6. Collaboration with Other Departments:

    • Work closely with the production, engineering, and design teams to ensure that quality standards are communicated clearly and adhered to throughout the production process.
    • Collaborate with the production team to ensure that machinery and systems are ready for operation and comply with established quality standards.
  7. Training and Development:

    • Train and mentor junior quality control technicians on best practices for inspection, testing, and troubleshooting mechanical systems.
    • Stay current on industry trends, advancements in quality control technologies, and new testing techniques, ensuring that the team remains up to date with the latest practices.
    • Conduct internal training sessions to improve team knowledge of quality control procedures and mechanical systems.

Key Focus Areas:

  1. Inspection and Testing Leadership:

    • Take the lead in implementing advanced testing methods and ensure all mechanical systems are thoroughly inspected and meet rigorous quality standards.
  2. Troubleshooting and Problem Solving:

    • Act as the point of escalation for complex quality issues, resolving mechanical problems quickly to prevent delays and optimize production processes.
  3. Process and Quality Improvement:

    • Continuously seek and implement improvements in quality control processes to increase efficiency, reduce waste, and improve the overall quality of mechanical systems and components.
  4. Team Leadership and Mentoring:

    • Lead the quality control team by fostering a culture of collaboration, high performance, and continuous learning, mentoring team members to develop their skills.
  5. Compliance and Documentation Management:

    • Ensure that all quality control documentation is maintained according to industry regulations and company policies, ensuring full traceability and audit readiness.

Qualifications and Skills:

  1. Educational Requirements:

    • High school diploma or equivalent required; a technical degree or certification in Mechanical Engineering, Quality Control, or a related field is preferred.
    • 5+ years of experience in quality control for mechanical systems, with a proven track record of inspecting, testing, and troubleshooting mechanical components and systems.
  2. Technical Skills:

    • Expert knowledge of mechanical systems, components, and production processes.
    • Advanced proficiency with measurement tools (e.g., calipers, micrometers, gauges) and non-destructive testing (e.g., ultrasonic, X-ray, dye penetrant testing).
    • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and schematics.
    • Familiarity with quality management systems (QMS) and industry standards (e.g., ISO 9001).
    • Experience with failure analysis, root cause analysis (RCA), and implementing corrective actions.
  3. Soft Skills:

    • Strong leadership and mentoring skills, with the ability to guide a team and foster professional development.
    • Excellent problem-solving abilities with a deep understanding of mechanical systems and quality control methodologies.
    • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to clearly communicate technical findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
    • Strong attention to detail, ensuring all inspection and test results are accurate and compliant.
  4. Certifications (Preferred):

    • Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt, Lean Manufacturing certifications, or similar qualifications.
    • Certified Quality Engineer (CQE), Certified Quality Technician (CQT), or similar certifications are a plus.
    • OSHA certification or relevant safety training is beneficial.
