QA/QC Engineer – Fabrication (API 650, 653, ASME)

Roles & Responsibilities

We are seeking a detail-oriented and technically proficient Mid-Level QA/QC Engineer – Fabrication to manage and execute quality control activities for fabrication projects, including tanks (API 650), in-service inspections (API 653), and pressure components (ASME). The role includes overseeing welding quality, inspections, NDT coordination, and documentation for successful project delivery and compliance with industry standards.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, review, and implement Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs), Welding Procedures (WPS/PQR), and Quality Plans in line with API 650/653 and ASME Section VIII / IX requirements.

  • Conduct and monitor in-process and final inspections on welded and fabricated components.

  • Supervise or coordinate NDT activities (VT, UT, RT, MPI, DPI), and review test reports for compliance.

  • Validate material traceability, welding consumables, and heat treatment records.

  • Monitor welding activities and ensure welders are qualified as per WPS/WPQ standards.

  • Identify, log, and resolve non-conformities (NCRs) and assist in root cause analysis (RCA).

  • Participate in internal and client audits, and coordinate with third-party inspection agencies.

  • Prepare and maintain quality documentation: inspection reports, QA dossiers, and material certificates.

  • Support commissioning and pre-delivery inspections by compiling final documentation packages.

  • Work closely with project, fabrication, and client teams to maintain quality compliance.


Key Focus Areas:

  • Code Compliance: Solid understanding and application of API 650, API 653, ASME Section VIII, and ASME Section IX.

  • Welding Inspection: Oversight of welding activities, WPS/PQR/WPQ validation, and weld quality assurance.

  • Inspection Execution: Stage-wise inspection of fabrication processes—fit-up, welding, NDT, dimensional checks.

  • Documentation Control: Timely preparation and review of quality records and data books.

  • NDT Coordination: Planning and reviewing non-destructive testing as per project specs.

  • Client/Third-Party Interaction: Addressing technical queries, attending inspections, and ensuring satisfaction.

  • Problem-Solving: Investigate and resolve quality issues and assist with continuous improvement.

  • Team Support: Provide technical guidance to junior QA/QC personnel and support cross-functional teams.

  • Health, Safety & Quality Standards: Ensure safety and quality protocols are followed during inspections.


Qualifications:

  • Education:

    • Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering, Welding Engineering, or a related field.

  • Certifications:

    • NDT Level II in VT, MPI, DPI (additional UT or RT preferred)

    • API 650 / API 653 training or certification (preferred)

    • ASME Section IX / AWS D1.1 welding qualification knowledge

  • Experience:

    • 3–6 years of experience in QA/QC within fabrication of storage tanks, pressure vessels, or structural equipment.

    • Hands-on experience with stage inspections, weld quality assurance, and fabrication audits.

  • Skills & Competencies:

    • Strong knowledge of welding processes (SMAW, GTAW, SAW, FCAW).

    • Ability to read fabrication drawings, P&IDs, and welding symbols.

    • Familiarity with quality systems (ISO 9001), audits, and QA/QC documentation software.

    • Good communication skills to interface with production, clients, and third-party agencies.

    • Willingness to travel and work in fabrication yards or project sites as required.
