Job Title: Pump Skid Engineer

Job Summary:

The Senior Pump Skid Engineer is responsible for overseeing the design, development, installation, testing, and optimization of pump skid systems. This senior-level role involves leading and managing complex pump skid projects, ensuring systems meet all technical, safety, operational, and regulatory standards. The Senior Engineer will provide technical leadership to a team of engineers and technicians, working closely with clients, project managers, and cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality, efficient, and cost-effective pump systems. The role also includes overseeing system troubleshooting, ensuring optimal performance, and mentoring junior engineers.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Leadership in Design and Development:

    • Lead the design and development of advanced pump skid systems, including the selection of pumps, motors, valves, piping, instrumentation, and control systems.
    • Oversee the creation and approval of technical drawings, system layouts, and schematics to ensure all components are integrated seamlessly.
    • Provide technical solutions for complex engineering challenges, optimizing the system design for efficiency, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.
    • Lead the preparation of technical specifications, calculations, and design reports to ensure systems meet project requirements and industry standards (e.g., ASME, API, NEC).
  2. Project Management and Coordination:

    • Manage multiple pump skid design projects simultaneously, ensuring that they are delivered on time, within budget, and to the required specifications.
    • Coordinate with project managers, procurement teams, fabrication teams, and clients to ensure smooth execution and integration of pump systems into larger projects.
    • Develop detailed project schedules, allocate resources, and track project milestones to ensure that all design and commissioning activities are completed efficiently.
    • Provide regular progress reports to senior management and clients, highlighting key issues, risks, and solutions.
  3. System Integration and Performance Optimization:

    • Lead the integration of pump skid systems with other plant systems, including control systems (PLC, SCADA) and automation systems.
    • Conduct performance evaluations and simulations to verify that the pump skid systems meet operational requirements, optimize performance, and comply with safety standards.
    • Provide recommendations for system improvements based on performance data, including increasing system reliability, energy efficiency, and reducing downtime.
  4. Testing, Commissioning, and Troubleshooting:

    • Oversee the commissioning process of pump skid systems, ensuring that all components are tested and validated according to design specifications.
    • Provide hands-on leadership and technical expertise during testing, addressing any issues that arise and ensuring prompt resolution.
    • Troubleshoot complex pump system issues and develop solutions to ensure continuous system improvement and optimal performance.
    • Conduct root cause analysis for recurring performance issues and lead efforts to implement corrective actions.
  5. Safety, Compliance, and Quality Assurance:

    • Ensure all designs, installations, and operations comply with relevant safety standards, codes, and regulations (e.g., ASME, API, NEC, IEC).
    • Conduct safety audits and risk assessments to identify and mitigate potential hazards associated with the design, installation, and operation of pump skid systems.
    • Lead the implementation of quality control processes, ensuring that all systems undergo rigorous testing and validation before they are deployed.
  6. Mentorship and Team Leadership:

    • Mentor and guide junior engineers and technicians, providing technical leadership and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
    • Conduct design reviews and provide constructive feedback to improve the skills and knowledge of team members.
    • Help junior engineers troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues, developing their ability to take on more responsibility over time.
  7. Client and Stakeholder Interaction:

    • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients regarding the technical aspects of pump skid system design, performance, and commissioning.
    • Communicate with clients to gather requirements, provide updates, and ensure that the pump skid systems meet their expectations and operational needs.
    • Address client concerns, offering technical solutions and recommendations to resolve any issues and improve customer satisfaction.
  8. Continuous Improvement and Innovation:

    • Drive innovation within the design and optimization of pump skid systems by researching and integrating new technologies and industry best practices.
    • Participate in the development of new design methodologies, tools, and techniques to improve system performance and streamline the design process.
    • Regularly assess existing designs, identifying opportunities for system optimization and cost savings.
  9. Documentation and Reporting:

    • Oversee the preparation of detailed documentation for pump skid systems, including system designs, technical specifications, test results, and operational manuals.
    • Ensure that all design changes, updates, and modifications are properly documented and communicated to the team and relevant stakeholders.
    • Maintain accurate records of design decisions, testing activities, and client communications for future reference and audits.

Skills and Knowledge Required:

  • Extensive knowledge of pump systems, including design, integration, and performance optimization.
  • Expertise in fluid dynamics, mechanical systems, and electrical control systems (e.g., PLC, SCADA).
  • Strong proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, etc.) for designing and reviewing pump skid layouts and technical drawings.
  • Experience with pump selection, sizing, and system integration to meet project specifications.
  • Knowledge of industry safety standards, codes (e.g., ASME, API, NEC, IEC), and quality assurance procedures.
  • Strong project management skills, including experience managing budgets, schedules, and resources for large-scale pump skid projects.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues and provide effective solutions in a timely manner.
  • Leadership skills, with the ability to manage a team of engineers and technicians effectively.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with clients, stakeholders, and cross-functional teams.

Key Focus Areas:

Field Instrumentation: Assist in maintaining and calibrating field devices for accurate process control.

Troubleshooting: Learn basic fault diagnosis and support the resolution of issues in instrumentation systems.

Safety Compliance: Follow safety protocols and participate in training programs to ensure workplace safety.

Skill Development: Gain technical knowledge and experience in oil and gas field operations.

Educational Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Certifications in pump system design, project management, or quality assurance (e.g., PMP, Six Sigma, PLC, SCADA) are beneficial.

Experience:

  • 8+ years of experience in the design, testing, and commissioning of pump skid systems or related systems in industrial or commercial applications.
  • Proven experience managing complex pump skid projects, including leading teams, coordinating with stakeholders, and ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
  • Extensive hands-on experience with pump system optimization, troubleshooting, and performance validation.

Tools and Technologies:

  • Advanced proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar tools) for creating and reviewing pump skid designs.
  • Familiarity with fluid dynamics simulation software and energy modeling tools.
  • Experience with PLCs, SCADA systems, and industrial control systems.
  • Proficiency with project management tools (e.g., MS Project, Primavera) to track and manage project timelines, budgets, and resources.

  • Strong organizational and leadership skills, with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to work independently and make decisions while ensuring quality and compliance with project requirements.
