Job Title: Pump Technician
Job Summary:
The
Junior Pump Technician is responsible for assisting in the installation, maintenance, and repair of pumps and related systems. This role requires a basic understanding of mechanical and electrical systems, and the ability to follow instructions and safety guidelines to ensure the proper functioning of pumps in various industrial, commercial, or manufacturing applications. The Junior Pump Technician will work under the supervision of senior technicians and engineers, gaining hands-on experience and developing technical skills related to pump systems.
Key Responsibilities:

Pump Installation Assistance:
- Assist in the installation of new pump systems, including assembling pump parts, connecting pumps to piping, motors, and electrical systems.
- Help position, align, and secure pumps in accordance with technical specifications and safety guidelines.
- Ensure all necessary equipment and tools are available for installation tasks and assist in setting up the work area.

Routine Maintenance and Inspections:
- Assist in the routine inspection of pumps to identify potential issues such as leaks, unusual noises, or performance issues.
- Help perform preventive maintenance tasks, such as lubricating moving parts, cleaning filters, and checking for wear and tear on pump components.
- Support the team in replacing components like seals, gaskets, and bearings to keep the pumps in optimal working condition.

Troubleshooting and Minor Repairs:
- Assist senior technicians in diagnosing basic mechanical or electrical issues with pump systems.
- Perform minor repairs or adjustments to pumps, such as fixing leaks, tightening bolts, and ensuring proper motor function.
- Learn to use diagnostic tools (e.g., pressure gauges, voltmeters) under the guidance of senior technicians to assess the performance of pump systems.

Safety Compliance:
- Follow all safety protocols when working with pump systems, including using appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensuring safe work practices.
- Assist in conducting safety checks on pumps, tools, and equipment before use, ensuring that all systems meet safety standards.
- Report any safety hazards or malfunctions to senior technicians immediately to prevent accidents or downtime.

Documentation and Reporting:
- Assist in keeping detailed records of installation, maintenance, and repair activities, including parts used and work completed.
- Help prepare reports on pump performance and maintenance work, ensuring accurate documentation for future reference and audits.
- Record any issues encountered during work and report them to senior engineers for further analysis.

Learning and Development:
- Continuously learn about pump systems, including different types of pumps (centrifugal, positive displacement, etc.), their operation, and common problems.
- Participate in training programs and hands-on learning opportunities to develop technical skills in pump maintenance and repair.
- Seek guidance from senior technicians and engineers to improve knowledge of troubleshooting and maintenance techniques.

- Work effectively with senior technicians and other team members to support pump installation and maintenance projects.
- Assist in the organization of work, ensuring that all materials and tools are prepared for the job at hand.
- Contribute to team efforts by sharing information and supporting colleagues as needed.
Skills and Knowledge Required:
- Basic understanding of mechanical systems, pump components, and industrial equipment.
- Ability to use basic hand tools (e.g., wrenches, screwdrivers, pipe cutters) and power tools safely and effectively.
- Familiarity with diagnostic tools such as pressure gauges, voltmeters, and flow meters is a plus but not required.
- Willingness to learn and develop hands-on skills in pump maintenance and repair.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow instructions accurately.
- Good communication skills to interact with senior technicians and engineers and report progress effectively.
Key Focus Areas:
Field Instrumentation: Assist in maintaining and calibrating field devices for accurate process control.
Troubleshooting: Learn basic fault diagnosis and support the resolution of issues in instrumentation systems.
Safety Compliance: Follow safety protocols and participate in training programs to ensure workplace safety.
Skill Development: Gain technical knowledge and experience in oil and gas field operations.
Educational Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent (minimum requirement).
- Basic technical training or certifications in mechanical systems, industrial maintenance, or electrical systems is advantageous but not required.
- Any coursework or academic projects related to pump systems, mechanical engineering, or electrical systems is beneficial.
Experience:
- 1-2 years of experience in mechanical systems, pump systems, or industrial maintenance (internships or hands-on projects are beneficial).
- Exposure to pump operation, maintenance, or troubleshooting through coursework, apprenticeships, or prior work is an advantage.
Tools and Technologies:
- Familiarity with basic hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment used for mechanical fitting and pump maintenance.
- Basic knowledge of pump types, such as centrifugal, positive displacement, and diaphragm pumps, is helpful but not required.
Other Requirements:
- Ability to work safely in an industrial environment, including lifting heavy components, standing for long periods, and working in confined spaces.
- Strong willingness to learn and develop hands-on experience with pump systems and mechanical components.
- Ability to work effectively within a team environment, following instructions and supporting senior technicians.
- Flexibility to travel to various job sites and work on different types of pumps and systems as required.
