Job Title: Pump Skid Engineer

Job Summary:

The Senior Pump Skid Engineer is responsible for leading the design, development, testing, commissioning, and optimization of pump skid systems for industrial, commercial, and manufacturing applications. This senior-level role involves overseeing complex pump skid projects, providing technical leadership, and ensuring that all systems meet client specifications, safety standards, and operational performance requirements. The Senior Engineer will work closely with cross-functional teams, mentor junior engineers, and ensure the timely and cost-effective delivery of high-quality pump skid systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Leadership in Design and Development:

    • Lead the design and development of advanced pump skid systems, including pumps, valves, motors, piping, instrumentation, and control systems.
    • Take ownership of the entire design process, from conceptualization through to detailed design, ensuring that systems meet operational, performance, and regulatory requirements.
    • Oversee the preparation of technical specifications, layout drawings, piping diagrams, and system integration plans, ensuring optimal configuration and efficiency.
    • Provide design solutions to complex challenges related to pump skid performance, energy efficiency, and system reliability.
  2. Project Management and Coordination:

    • Manage multiple pump skid projects simultaneously, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and according to client specifications.
    • Coordinate with project managers, procurement teams, fabrication teams, and clients to ensure smooth execution and integration of pump skid systems into larger projects.
    • Develop detailed project plans, including schedules, resource allocation, and budgeting, ensuring that all milestones are met.
    • Ensure clear and timely communication with all stakeholders, providing updates on project progress, challenges, and solutions.
  3. System Integration and Optimization:

    • Lead the integration of pump skid systems with other plant systems, including PLCs, SCADA, and automation systems, ensuring seamless operation and performance.
    • Perform system analysis and simulations to verify that the pump skid systems meet performance specifications, operational efficiency, and safety standards.
    • Optimize system designs for energy efficiency, reduced downtime, and improved performance, offering solutions to address any operational inefficiencies.
  4. Testing, Commissioning, and Troubleshooting:

    • Oversee the testing and commissioning of pump skid systems, ensuring that all components perform as per design specifications and project requirements.
    • Provide technical expertise in diagnosing and troubleshooting any issues during the commissioning phase, leading efforts to resolve problems quickly and effectively.
    • Lead the validation of pump skid systems in the field, ensuring that all systems are fully operational, calibrated, and ready for production.
  5. Quality Assurance and Compliance:

    • Ensure that all pump skid designs and installations comply with relevant quality standards, industry regulations, and safety codes (e.g., ASME, API, NEC, IEC).
    • Review and approve quality assurance procedures, ensuring that all systems undergo rigorous testing, validation, and quality control before delivery.
    • Conduct risk assessments and implement safety measures to mitigate potential hazards associated with the design, installation, and operation of pump skid systems.
  6. Mentorship and Staff Development:

    • Mentor and guide junior engineers and designers, providing technical leadership, advice, and feedback to help them develop their skills and expertise.
    • Lead technical training sessions and knowledge-sharing activities to promote continuous learning within the team.
    • Provide constructive feedback on design work and help junior engineers troubleshoot and resolve complex design issues.
  7. Client and Stakeholder Interaction:

    • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients regarding technical specifications, progress updates, and any design-related modifications.
    • Present design proposals, system specifications, and commissioning plans to clients, ensuring alignment with their objectives and operational needs.
    • Address any client concerns or system modifications, offering technical solutions to ensure complete client satisfaction.
  8. Continuous Improvement and Innovation:

    • Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the design process, identifying opportunities for system optimization, cost reduction, and process efficiency.
    • Stay up-to-date with the latest technologies and advancements in pump systems, control systems, and automation to incorporate new solutions into designs.
    • Evaluate existing designs and processes to identify opportunities for innovation and improvement in system functionality and project execution.
  9. Documentation and Reporting:

    • Ensure the accurate and timely preparation of all project documentation, including system designs, test reports, commissioning documents, and as-built drawings.
    • Review and approve final reports for clients and senior management, summarizing design activities, testing results, system performance, and any changes made during the project.
    • Maintain accurate records of all modifications, troubleshooting activities, and system configurations to ensure compliance and future maintenance support.

Skills and Knowledge Required:

  • Extensive knowledge of pump skid systems, including pumps, valves, motors, piping, instrumentation, and control systems.
  • Strong experience in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar) for designing and reviewing pump skid system layouts and technical drawings.
  • Expertise in fluid dynamics, mechanical design, and system integration, with a focus on optimizing pump skid performance and energy efficiency.
  • In-depth understanding of safety standards, codes (e.g., ASME, API, NEC, IEC), and quality control procedures related to pump skid systems.
  • Proven experience in project management, including the ability to handle multiple projects, manage timelines, and allocate resources effectively.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills, with the ability to resolve complex design and system integration issues quickly and effectively.
  • Leadership skills, with the ability to guide, mentor, and develop junior engineers and cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent communication skills for interacting with clients, vendors, contractors, and internal teams to ensure smooth project execution.

Key Focus Areas:

Field Instrumentation: Assist in maintaining and calibrating field devices for accurate process control.

Troubleshooting: Learn basic fault diagnosis and support the resolution of issues in instrumentation systems.

Safety Compliance: Follow safety protocols and participate in training programs to ensure workplace safety.

Skill Development: Gain technical knowledge and experience in oil and gas field operations.

Educational Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Certifications in pump system design, fluid dynamics, or project management (e.g., PMP, Six Sigma) are beneficial.

Experience:

  • 8+ years of experience in designing, testing, and commissioning pump skid systems or related systems in industrial or commercial applications.
  • Proven experience managing complex pump skid projects, including handling client requirements, team coordination, and system integration.
  • Extensive hands-on experience with pump system optimization, testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning.

Tools and Technologies:

  • Advanced proficiency in CAD tools such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar design tools for creating and reviewing pump skid layouts and technical drawings.
  • Familiarity with fluid dynamics simulation software, pump selection tools, and energy modeling tools.
  • Experience with control systems, including PLCs, SCADA, and integration with pump skid systems.
  • Proficiency with project management software (e.g., MS Project, Primavera) for tracking and managing pump skid projects.
