Roles & Responsibilities

The Project Manager – Marine Piping and Structural Fabrication Projects is responsible for the planning, coordination, execution, and delivery of piping and structural fabrication work packages for shipbuilding, retrofit, or offshore marine projects. This role ensures that project objectives related to quality, schedule, safety, and cost are achieved while serving as the primary point of contact between production teams, engineering, suppliers, and clients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the end-to-end execution of marine piping and structural fabrication projects, from contract award through final delivery.

  • Develop and maintain detailed project schedules, fabrication milestones, manpower plans, and resource allocation strategies.

  • Oversee the fabrication of piping systems (carbon steel, stainless steel, Cu-Ni, GRE, etc.) and structural components (hulls, decks, brackets, foundations).

  • Coordinate with engineering for drawing reviews, material take-offs, weld maps, and spool release.

  • Ensure all fabrication activities comply with applicable codes and standards (ASME B31.1/B31.3, ABS, DNV, NAVSEA, ISO).

  • Liaise with procurement to track material deliveries, consumables, and subcontractor progress.

  • Monitor production progress and conduct regular site inspections, quality reviews, and safety audits.

  • Manage project budgets, change orders, and risk registers, and report status to senior management and clients.

  • Serve as the client interface for technical discussions, documentation reviews, and milestone validations.

  • Coordinate internal cross-functional teams (fabrication, welding, outfitting, QA/QC, testing, and logistics).

  • Support handover documentation, punch list clearance, and close-out reporting.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering, or related technical field.

  • 7–10 years of experience in project execution within marine or offshore fabrication environments.

  • Strong understanding of shipyard processes, pipe fabrication methods, structural assembly, and marine outfitting.

  • Proficient in project planning software (e.g., MS Project, Primavera P6) and reporting tools.

  • Familiar with classification society requirements (ABS, DNV, Lloyd’s, BV) and client standards (e.g., NAVSEA, USCG, IMO).

  • Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

  • Ability to read and interpret piping isometrics, structural fabrication drawings, weld procedures, and technical specifications.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PMP® certification or equivalent project management training.

  • Experience with ERP systems (SAP, IFS, Oracle) and digital document control platforms.

  • Background in defense, offshore, or modular construction programs.

  • Certification or familiarity with welding inspection or QA/QC practices (AWS-CWI, CSWIP, NACE).

Working Conditions:

  • Primarily site-based within a shipyard or fabrication shop, with regular walkdowns and contractor interface.

  • Required to wear PPE and follow site-specific health and safety protocols.

  • May require extended working hours, weekend coordination, or occasional travel to client or supplier locations.
