Project Manager – Fabricated Equipment Delivery

Roles & Responsibilities

The Project Manager – Fabricated Equipment Delivery is responsible for the successful planning, coordination, and delivery of custom-fabricated equipment for industrial or infrastructure projects. This role involves managing end-to-end project activities from engineering and procurement to fabrication, inspection, logistics, and final delivery to the client or site. The Project Manager ensures that equipment is delivered on time, within scope, budget, and in accordance with all quality and safety standards.


Key Responsibilities:

  1. Project Planning & Execution:

    • Develop and maintain detailed project execution plans for fabricated equipment packages (vessels, heat exchangers, tanks, skids, etc.).

    • Monitor progress, manage risks, and ensure adherence to timelines and milestones.

  2. Stakeholder Coordination:

    • Serve as the single point of contact between engineering, procurement, fabrication shops, QA/QC teams, logistics, and the client.

    • Facilitate regular progress reviews, technical clarifications, and documentation handovers.

  3. Fabrication Oversight:

    • Oversee fabrication activities at internal or third-party workshops, ensuring compliance with drawings, welding procedures, and specifications.

    • Track critical path items such as raw material availability, welding completion, and painting/coating.

  4. Quality Assurance & Inspection:

    • Coordinate inspection plans, third-party inspections (TPIs), NDT, and client witness points.

    • Ensure all QA/QC records, test certificates, and compliance documents are in order.

  5. Budget & Cost Control:

    • Monitor project costs, variations, and ensure alignment with approved budgets.

    • Support procurement and cost negotiations with suppliers and vendors.

  6. Delivery & Logistics:

    • Coordinate dispatch readiness, packaging, and transportation of equipment to site.

    • Ensure adherence to shipping terms, export documentation (if applicable), and client delivery schedules.

  7. Reporting & Documentation:

    • Maintain comprehensive project documentation, including progress reports, MOMs, inspection reports, and delivery status logs.

    • Prepare client-facing reports and presentations on project status.


Key Focus Areas:

  • On-Time Equipment Delivery: Ensuring committed delivery dates are met without compromising quality.

  • Multi-Disciplinary Coordination: Seamless collaboration between engineering, fabrication, QA/QC, procurement, and logistics.

  • Risk & Issue Management: Proactive identification and resolution of delays or bottlenecks in fabrication and delivery processes.

  • Customer Satisfaction: Clear communication and responsive handling of client concerns and expectations.

  • Regulatory Compliance: Adherence to applicable codes and standards (ASME, PED, API, ISO, etc.).


Required Skills & Competencies:

Technical Knowledge:

  • Strong understanding of fabrication processes, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, columns, skids, and modular assemblies.

  • Familiarity with engineering drawings, WPS/PQR, welding processes, material traceability, and QA documentation.

Project Management:

  • Expertise in project planning, scheduling (Primavera/MS Project), and cost control.

  • Capability to manage multiple concurrent projects or large equipment packages.

Communication & Leadership:

  • Strong interpersonal and stakeholder management skills.

  • Ability to coordinate across internal departments and external vendors.

Quality & Safety Awareness:

  • Working knowledge of NDT techniques, fabrication inspection procedures, and safety practices during equipment handling.


Qualifications & Experience:

  • Education: B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.

  • Certifications:

    • PMP or PRINCE2 (preferred)

    • ASME/AWS familiarity or QA certifications are a plus

  • Experience: 8–12 years of experience in project management, including at least 3–5 years handling fabricated equipment delivery in sectors such as Oil & Gas, Power, Petrochemical, Water, or Heavy Engineering.
